Teas vs the hesi exam!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi guys,

I am new to this forum, but wanted to post some information that I have learned since taking both the HESI and TEAS exam...

I purchased BOTH study guides as well as worked on the practice exams. I have to say I felt "ill prepared" after taking the TEAS, as there were many more chemistry and physics questions than I would have thought, and actually felt over prepared for the HESI!!

If you have to take both, as I did, (within a week of each other!) PLEASE PLEASE study as much as you can from the TEAS study guide, it was MUCH harder than I had thought it would be!

I actually took the TEAS V on a whim. I scored a 63% the first time. All I needed was a 60% for the one school that I applied to. That was a few months ago. Now I am told that I need to take the HESI for another school that I am looking into. I am a little worried about it. The reason I scored so low on the TEAS was b/c of the science... but now I have alot more science under my belt so I should be ok. I am worried about the math now. I havent looked over the stuff since the test. Should I be worried? I would love any insight on the HESI. Thanks!!!

HI there!

DO NOT WORRY AT ALL!!

The HESI is MUCH better than the TEAS! (and I too scored in the 60's on the TEAS)

The science messed me up as well, as I hadn't ever taken earth science and it has been years since I took chemistry!

Double check (with the school that you are taking the HESI for) on this to make sure that I am correct, but I was only tested on the math section and then three english/grammar sections.

I purchased the HESI study guide and felt like the test was directly from the book! (unlike the TEAS exam!)

Take some time to go over the algebra section (I practiced the problems that they had in the book verbatem) and scored highest in the math section-which NEVER happens for someone like me!

I would be happy to share any other suggestions to help you prepare, but since you already have the TEAS under your belt I think you are going to do GREAT!

I was told that that there was going to be bio, a&p for the sciences. There was also going be a few different things in the english section and math. The good thing about the HESI A2, is that there will be no chemistry.. which I suck at. I really dont want to have to purchase another book. Do you suggest that I purchase a book for the HESI... and if so what book? How much was it? Thank you so much for all and any info. What did you get on the HESI (if you dont mind sharing)?

Ok, so your school may be testing on a little more than mine did. I purchased the HESI study guide-I think it was $30, and it REALLY was helpful.

I got an overall score of 90%

:)

So the book is different from the TEAS V book?

There are similar sections, but I found the HESI book followed the exam much more closely than the TEAS book. (I purchased both)
