San Francisco State University - SFSU - Generic Masters Program 2009 !!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I had previously posted this, but no responses? Maybe I placed it in the wrong category. If you applied for 2009, let me know.

I am patiently awaiting April to come.

I just wanted to start a thread for all those who applied to the 2009 GMSN program at SFSU. I did. Look at my stats, tell me yours, your story, etc.

Im really excited!

GPA- 3.6

Pre-Reqs GPA- 3.8

Actual Nursing Courses GPA (Previously in a RN program)- 3.8

Worked at a hospital during my first & second year in nursing school.

How was the competition for the previous years? Any stats?

I had to drop out of nursing school, but now it is one of my hugest regrets and I am trying to get back to get my Masters!!! I am a single mommy with a two-year old son, hoping that this will provide US with the life we both deserve.

Hope to hear from you all really soon!

:heartbeat:redpinkhe:redbeathe:yeah:

does anyone know if they count summers as a semester at sfsu? i'm trying to figure out exactly how long the program is...

In the literature i printed out from sf state it says "it is possible to complete the 7 semesters of study in three years (including two summer sessions)." However you can go part time after the 5th semester.

More info ... It looks like you get your RN after the first 4 semesters - then at the fifth semester you begin your graduate level courses which are 3 semesters, the final semester includes a field study or a masters thesis and your graduate nursing practicum. Does anyone know the tuition cost?

Do you think all the yes's went out first?

Hey all! Congratulations to all who have been admitted. I just got a phone call from my best friend and ex-roomie saying I got my acceptance letter for the Fall 2009 cohort in Women's Health. I'm extatic and still in shock.

Went home to check at lunch- still negative. This is probably a bad sign...

Congrats Lizzy8! You are the first person I've seen to have also gotten into the women's health emphasis for this program. I am so excited to be doing this speciality as I've been pursuing this field of nursing for awhile now. Looking forward to meeting you when we start classes in August!

Thanks Emalee. It sure feels good to know we'll be starting our nursing careers very soon. I can't wait for the orientation and classes to begin. Now we have to start taking care of all the logistical odds & ends, like finding a place to live.

The adventure begins!

Hey lizzy, I am really looking forward to this program as well. I won't be able to attend orientation b/c my husband and I will be out of the country all of July. Hopefully I won't miss anything too crucial. We are going to be looking for a place to live in SF when we come back too. Good luck with everything! I'm sure we'll all be put in contact with each other once the program starts but heres my email anyhow. At least we'll both know one person when we start!

Victory, hang in there. I saw in threads about other programs that maybe not all letters go out at same time. Is anyone planning to commute from the east bay? I am not sure if I should try to move to SF. I know people commute all the time for work , but for school - if you forget your book or a paper, you can't just run home at lunch to get it. I live in Oakland. Also does anyone know about the schedule , those of you starting in fall - any info to share? my e mail is [email protected] maybe we could start a facebook page for people in this years program?

Hey Peppered,

Thats a great idea. I'll start a facebook group for people in this years program and then post the link to it here. I would also appreciate any information about the orientation this summer, because I won't be able to attend.

As for your commute. I finished my last semester of nursing pre-reqs at SFSU while living in Berkeley last year. The commute was definitely doable on BART. It took me about an hour each way including the shuttle from the Daly City BART to campus. I did a lot of reading and listening to music, all in all, not too bad. Riding bart can get expensive, but then again so is living in SF.

We're all rooting for you Victory!

Thank you, but from what I understand- Acceptance letters go out first, waiting list letters go out second and then ****rejection**** letters go out last! My mail is terrible though- so maybe I'll blame it on them!!!! I will be upset, but as is life- I will apply again next year if not.
