Recommendations for nursing schools?

Hi, I have a previous Bachelors degree in Psych and Spanish and am changing careers to enter nursing. I've finished just about all my pre-reqs, and am looking for nursing schools that have an excellent reputation, a good clinical program and are away from the Pacific Northwest, as I've lived here all my life. I plan to visit 3 states in June to visit nursing schools. Do you have any recommendations on the schools I've listed below about whether they're good or overrated, and please add any schools that you like! Thanks so much for your help! &)

The schools I'm currently considering seriously are:

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

University of Arizona

Arizona State University

Northeastern University

University of New Mexico

University of Florida

By the way, I'm not looking specifically for an accelerated bachelors degree program; rather, I think I'd like to take my time instead. &)

I am at UNC-CH as a senior. I can tell you that we have an excellent BSN program, beautiful campus ( the school of nursing was recently renovated and includes a robotic patient simulator)and surrounding area, as well as the opprotunity to have clinical sites at some of the best hospital in the country. You will definetly put your spanish degree to work here as well. If you love college sports this is definetly the place to be.

I am at UNC-CH as a senior. I am NOT trying to hijack your thread, but I've noticed your screen name before and had figured out where you go to school now, so I have to ask, and CANNOT resist any longer....isn't there something a bit odd about a State grad - or even a FAN - going to UNC? :lol2: I do so love the irony.....

(BTW, I'm going to Duke in the fall, so feel free to toss it back at me.;) )

To the original poster - I do agree with WolfpackRed - UNC is a fantastic and highly rated school.

Thanks Wolfpackred!! I appreciate your recommendation! May I ask: Do you find that you have a lot of hands-on experience with patients in the clinicals and do you feel that you're prepared well clinically for when you will go out into the real world and work as a nurse?

Also- would you mind if I dropped on by to buy you coffee or lunch and chat about your experience at UNC when I come and visit the school the 2nd or 3rd week of June?

As hard as it is to set foot on "that" campus, I have to think that going to "Dook" will be worse.

Yeah, we get plenty of hands on experience during our clinicals working in every imaginable setting. The simulator has only been used once by the students during maternal/newborn to give us an idea of a birth during the worst possible scenario.

I don't mind just need to know exact dates to work around our summer intern program, but if I am not available ther may be other students/faculity willing to meet with you.
