Question about "W"s on transcripts

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm thinking about applying to a nursing program (at a county college in NJ) and was concerned that the 2 W's I have on my transcript for Microbiology will hurt my chances. I graduated from college already with a degree in psychology (graduated with a 3.95 GPA) and was thinking about going for a second degree. During my college years I thought about nursing which was why I took the microbiology course (twice). Both times I withdrew from the course because I had medical issues and withdrew a month into the course, not because I was failing or anything. I'm concerned that'll hurt my chances of getting into a program and wanted some feedback on this. Thanks!

It shouldn't hurt you. Repeats are usually only counted if you actually earned a grade the first time around. I got into both programs I applied to with a W in Micro. I honestly wouldn't worry about it at all.

Specializes in GENERAL.

OP:

This is just me, but in a course you are struggling with the question is: do I ride this tired horse till it drops (apologies to the horsey crowd) and stink up the place or do I withdraw to live to take the subject over again with the hopes of redeeming myself?

Find out how your present school tabulates the cum with your Ws, and then find how the nursing school of your desire again tabulates your cum with Ws regarding admittance.

The above advice is a tautology which gives credence to the old saying that practice makes perfect in all things.
