Pre-Nursing Student advice & HELP!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone! I am 20 years old, attending my second semester this fall at a community college. I live in southern California and my dream is to become a nurse. I have a GED instead of a high school diploma which is why I am attending community college and will hopefully soon transfer into a UC or CAL STATE to get into a BSN program. My questions are..

- How much will my GED affect me while trying to transfer into a BSN program?

- What advice can you give me on what to do or not to do during community college?

Example: Is there anything you would have done different that maybe delayed your route into becoming a RN?

- What extracurricular activities did you do?

- What school did you get into & how long did you wait to get in?

- What was your GPA when trying to transfer?

If you do not have answers to every question that is fine, anything will help. & if you are not a nurse yet please tell me what you are doing & how your experience is going?

I don't know anyone in the medical field so I don't really have anyone to guide me. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me out, I appreciate you! (:

I'm not a nurse, but I plan on being one eventually. I am volunteering at a hospital starting next month which probably won't help anything except for me getting a feel for hospitals. I want to get my CNA within the next 6 months as well so that I can start getting some type of experience in the field. Just stay focused. It's only my second year in college and that was my biggest mistake the first year. I'm so far behind now and I feel like I'm not going to catch up. Stay focused, do not let stress take over your life!!!

Hi mindofmidwifery. I'm sorry but I didn't understand.. What was your biggest mistake the first year? Not being focused? Do you want to be a midwife in the long run? Because if so I do too (: Thank you!

Right, not being focused. A lot of stuff happened that I had no control over, but it was still my responsibility to stay focused in school and get the grades that I needed. I found out too late that I was in the wrong major and now I can't switch because of my low GPA. on top of that, I now have to appeal my financial aid reinstatement. Do not act like you know what you're doing please!!! I tried to be too independent and didn't get the help I needed. I'm in a great university and I took it for granted :( But anyway, yes, I want to be a midwife so bad. It's my ultimate goal, I have a plan mapped out now so if I do everything right from this point on I should be able to reach that goal.
