Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I can't tell you the number of times someone has said something in a post that is likely specific to their area, and it would really help if people would post their location.

This is probably stupid, but it bugs me each time I am on here.

Ex. "there are layoffs in my area." Would be helpful to know where "your area" is.

Thanks for listening! Hope everyone has an awesome Turkey Day!

:D

Agreed.

It would help :D

It need not be too specific, even just a region or state can be quite helpful.

I think many here prefer not to for professional reasons.

Or something specific like the state. Wow, like there is no differences regionally in the same state.

It's a matter of degree. I'm not all that paranoid, cuz I know it's not that hard to follow an IP to a fairly small geographical area. (closer than state level) So if u'r not using at least one anon proxy, you may as well give up your county. Still, we all like our illusions. So, it's not big deal to me, if you don't even want to id your country of origin.

I reveal my location when there's a reason.

I live in a very small town and if a nurse from my area is reading my posts I have no hope of anonymity should I post my town.

And it isn't easy for the casual poster to get posters' ip's. The admins of the site can, sure, but not you and me.

I list the area of the country, but in posts where location is needed; I list that I live and work in central IL because as someone else stated, things are different even in different parts of the same state.

As I said, we all have our illusions. It's not that hard to harvest IP's.

In addition to your ip, you have a particular style in language. Someone who knows you should have no trouble telling which are your posts, unless u make a conscious effort to hide your personal style.

Pug, I'm a programmer and geek. I know that it can be done but I know that there is not one in my area with the expertise or interest in culling my info from this forum. That's not an illusion, that's the reality.

Even if they recognize my speech there is deniability because without a supoena my facility can't get such information legally.

I'm realistic. But if you want to find me you can dig.

Too right. No one really cares that much.

That's my whole thing about cyberparanoia. If someone wants it, no problem, otherwise why not make it easier for people who are honest? Of course, keep your phone number and address hidden to prevent unsolicited ads, but a real location, as the op said...just makes things more clear.

Btw, you don't need expertise. So many lamers out there could do it. You'd only hafta make a post to any wannabe site to get results.
