PCT BEFORE RN???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I've been working as a Home Health Aide for a little over 2 months now. I will be a Pre-Nursing student in March. I want to grow and work at a hospital. Does anyone think is a good idea for me to take a course in Patient Care Technician? Will Home Health Aide experience look good on my resume? Or do I need to do CNA First?

Thanks in advance,

Katherine

It really depends on the hospital because they are all different. If you can secure a job as a PCT, however, then by all means do it! The experience you gain will be very valuable to your future nursing career. Since you already have experience as a home health aide, that will help, too.

Some hospitals will hire you as a PCT if you have prior experience; others may require you to be a CNA in order to be hired. Then there are PCT positions that may only hire those who are currently in a nursing program. I say apply and see what happens.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you so much.
