Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So, I've finished all my prereq's ( except for college alg which I'm working on). I've taken the HESI and did well...then my husband gets orders and we are due to leave in a few months after he gets back from overseas. I feel like I've hit a wall! I can't apply and get in then move. I'm at the point now where I'm just considering changing career choices because I've been to 3 community colleges over 3-4 years (since high school) trying to become a nurse but moving and military has kept intervening.

I've thought about retaking the ACT, taking the TEAS and retaking an English class because I got a C. Then applying for a BSN program where ever we end up next. A big part of me is feeling like I'm wasting time, I want to start a career and a family. I love working in a hospital and shelters ( and want to get paid well) what else could I do?

An associates degree in Nursing takes anywhere from 14 to 24+ months... depending on where you take the classes. This program is full of clinicals, so you have to be available in the town you take your classes for the entire lenght of the program. My advice is to finish your pre-requisites and wait to sign up to nursing school until you know you can spend 2+ years in one location. After that, there are plenty of RN to BSN bridge programs online... so moving should not be a big deal.

On the other hand... I have had classmates who moved to my state for the lenght of the program and once finished they returned hoem to their spouses. Now, this doesn't work for most people, but it's worth mentioning you wouldn't be the only one if you chose that route.

I definitely considered staying here and finishing up school...but my husbands been deployed for almost a year so i don't think I'd actually do that lol. I've finished up all the pre reqs for an ADN ( taking college alg. This fall) and then that's it! Plus some extras actually:/ before I start spending extra money completing BSN Prereq's I wanted some opinions.... Like another beneficial degree or something I can do while waiting these 5-6 months before we move.

I'm feeling pretty stuck!

Are thinking of staying within the healthcare field?

Since you have been living in Tennessee (according to your profile), I suggest looking into online programs offered by the University of Tennessee and other institutions in your state (so you can take advantage of resident tuition rates) and not worry about where you live... since it would be online.

Or you could get your cna and work which looks great when applying. Can you find out where you're moving to and apply to ADN programs there now so you can start when you get there?

I've had my CNA since high school ( 2009) and have been working since. In also looking into getting a Medical Information Tech (online) degree to work in coding or records... or a health sciences degree ( can finish before we leave) and work as a phlebotomist or pharmacy tech while waiting to move and waiting to apply at our next location.

Since you already have your CNA you can apply to schools for LVN/LPN (at my college it only take 1 year). Once you and your husband are not moving around so much you can bridge to ADN or see if there is a LVN/LPN to BSN bridge program. It may take longer but you can get some good experience in the process.

We are only here for 5-6 more months. So that's not enough time to finish the nursing program ? I have my prereqs done I just don't know what to do now, while waiting to move.

Idk where that "dde23" came from think my phone had a minor seizure lol
