Pathophysiology

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm taking patho this fall as a pre-req. I've heard different opinions about the class & would like to know how did you pass/study techniques, how should I study in order to pass with an A? Also what grade did you get in patho?

I'm taking it this fall; though it is optional at my college. We are using the book, Understanding Pathophysiology. In addition to getting the book (I got the 4th edition after asking our professor if it would be ok), I picked Pathophysiology Made Incredibly Easy (used). My plan is to get the syllabus in advance of the semester, follow through on https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/how-get-any-846733.html I've already blocked out 12 hours per week of study time. Like you, I'm seeking study techniques that work best.

Took Patho last fall and my experience was that it was the 3rd foundation course for nursing just after a&p 1 and 2. Where a&p you learn what is normal, patho is the next logical step as in you start learning about disease processes. The more difficult part is that you also start learning to how different body systems interact with one another, but this is the basis of critical thinking in nursing -- someone could be having nausea and back pain, but it could actually be a cardiovascular problem and you'll you learn to understand why.

I basically studied the same way I did for a&p, with flash cards and rote memorization, and made an A with little problem. The majority of my class that had any problem with patho were also the ones that seemed to have the most trouble in a&p and thus didn't have a clear understanding of basic a&p to begin with.

I would study how I did in A&P I/II-with flash cards. I made a B, but I also took it in a 5 week summer session so I'm happy with that.

Great! I just stated making flash cards today! My professor has already told is to read the first 3 chapters!
