Out Of State Tuition

I just moved to a new state for various reasons and applied to the nursing progarm at the local university without realizing how much out of state tuition would be. In state tuition is aobut 6k a year and I thought out of state was 12 but it's 18! I figured getting a loan for the first year would make it doable but even with student loans I can't get all of the tuition coverd for the first year. I've applied to every scholarship possible.
I can't just go to a cheaper college because all applicaiton deadlines are all ready passed (and would still be super expensive paying out of state tuition). Any suggestions on how to come up with the money that financial aid won't cover for me? I really don't want to wait another year to start nursing school! I am going to the financial aid office tomorrow (I even rented an apartment right next to the campus) to see what I can work out since there is no way I can afford 18 grand my first year for tuition! Any advice is appreciated!

What do you stand to lose by waiting a year? A year is plenty of time to volunteer, network, study ahead, work, save money and enjoy life. Schooling does not have to be attained by a certain deadline. Life will not stop if you don't have a degree. Think long and hard about incurring debt, even if it is for a noble cause.

I would say take a year off! Work to make money and save, volunteer, get yourself settled in. Out of state tuition is ABSURD. I have friends who left for college and came back to my hometown this semester to start over because the tuition was just too much. Loans just seem like a last resort to me. Best of luck whatever you decide! :)

Have you talked to your Admission's Office?

My son was able to get in-state tuition as a new resident based on a specific criteria.

For example, my son's school the criteria is a yes to one or more of the following (with supporting documentation):

 I am a non-resident dependent student, and my supporting person is a full-time permanent employee of this institution.
 I am a non-resident dependent student, and my supporting person can verify full-time permanent employment in Alabama, and said employment will begin within ninety (90) days of my registration.
 I am a non-resident dependent student, and my supporting person is a member of the United States military on full-time active duty stationed in Alabama under orders for duties other than attending school.
 I am a non-resident dependent student, and my supporting person is an accredited member of a consular staff assigned to duties in Alabama.
 I (or my spouse) am a full-time permanent employee of this institution.
 I (or my spouse) can verify full-time permanent employment in Alabama, and said employment will begin within ninety (90) days of my registration.
 I (or my spouse) am a member of the United States military on full-time active duty stationed in Alabama under orders for duties other than attending school.
 I (or my spouse) am an accredited member of a consular staff assigned to duties in AL.
 I reside in a county of a state which is within the 50-mile radius of the designated campus of this institution. This statement applies only to the residents of the following counties in Georgia: Carroll, Chattooga, Floyd, Haralson, Heard, Paulding and Polk.
