Options? Rejected from all California States

Have you considered applying to other ADN programs here in CA? Most (at least here in the LA area) have collab programs with the CSUs that allow you to complete the BSN in just one extra year, and it ends up being cheaper than going straight to a CSU. Your stats are not bad at all, you may have luck with programs that go based on points rather than lottery. If you keep up the good grades you shouldn't have a problem getting into a CSU pathway program.

It was my understanding that the accepted GPAs for the CSUs are usually 3.8-4.0, and nothing below that. They are extremely competitive. Have you tried ADN programs? Also, it's hard to gauge what schools you may be competitive for elsewhere, as every school puts a different emphasis on GPA, etc. If you are truly interested at other out-of-state schools, I would start by calling them.

I'm originally from California and I had a very dismal overall gpa when I started becoming interested in nursing school. I failed a few classes when I was 18, being not ready to be in college. I knew my only shots of getting into nursing school were to put myself on a California community college wait list (ugh) or find nursing schools out there that only inquire about prerequisite gpa. Luckily most schools in Oregon only care about prerequisite gpa. So I worked hard and got a really good prerequisite gpa, got into OHSU up in Oregon, and I am now graduating in 11 days with honors!

I believe Boise state only require prerequisite gpa as well, as well as a school in Michigan. I'm sure there were a few more, but those were the only ones I was seriously looking into. OHSU is also a top 10 nursing school, which is why I was concentrating on that school (and I had already moved to Oregon to start my prereqs).

My cousin got into csu riverside with a 3.3 so that is not true. With many of the csu schools you can actually look up there stats and it will tell you the avg gpa that was accepted into the program and teas etc. don't give up. Going out of state is ridiculously expensive, there are many community colleges in ca that do not go by lottery and that you could easily get into with your stats. I also know that chico state, Bakersfield, and Fresno state are a little easier to get into ( not sure if you tried these schools). Good luck to you!

Sorry - but the level of competition for nursing school admissions in Texas has not yet abated. In fact, it will probably get worse, as our employment environment for new grads is currently improving by leaps and bounds. Anyone who may have been previously discouraged from nursing school by the lack of jobs for new grads is now going to make a run for it also.
