Nursing Student With ADHD

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Okay. Here goes. I'm a pre-nursing major, and I have almost completely ruined my transcript. Starting college was very challenging. After FIVE years passing and failing classes, I finally decided to take a break to try and figure out what could be the problem. Then, I was diagnosed with ADHD. I would've never thought simply because I always made A's and B's in high school. I was even in Honors classes. Taking my meds, getting back on track with life, and feeling like a normal person has been amazing. Here I am, two years later, ready to jump back into nursing. I've repeated three of my A&P courses twice (F the first time, A the second time). Of course, a lot of colleges don't allow you to repeat more than one science class. At this point, I am very discouraged and lost. Even if I speak with the counselors in our Department of Disablities, all rules apply the same for everyone. What should I do?

I recently found this on my schools website:

When necessary, reasonable modification of course or degree requirements must be made for students with disabilities unless the requirements can be demonstrated as essential to the program or unless modification would fundamentally alter the nature of the program.

Apply to a college with a waitlist. They accept everyone.
