Nurse Corps Scholarship Program

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello!

I am currently looking into ways I can pay for nursing school. I get no financial help from my parents - mom is on disability, so I would be taking out loans to go to school.

Someone told me about the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program - in which they help you pay for tuition, books, etc., and give monthly living stipends as well .. the only catch is you have to work in a in a critical shortage facility for two years upon graduation. This sounds like a really good exchange in my current predicament.

My question is, what's the catch (other than the fact that you have to work in CSF areas)? Has anyone been a part of the NC Scholarships program? Can you share with me your experiences regarding it?

Thank you

Did anyone else receive the "Congratulations!" email with a link to click to confirm, only to find out that you haven't actually won yet but are being put into a finalist group? I thought that was so harsh! I called my family and everything saying I'd won!

more forms to send

I was hoping to get that email :( Good luck to you though! I had read in the info book that they would be sending out an email like that but it would be frustrating if you didn't expect that!! You are one step closer...congrats!

What information did they ask for?

What information did they ask for?

They ask for you to upload a w-4, direct deposit info, verification of enrollment from your school and to electronically sign the contract.

you got it as long as you upload documents requested on time. When did you get that email? Im still hoping but credit was checked on july 30th so I'm a little confused/wishful.

I'm also interested in anyone who has done this, in Florida and what their expierience has been?

I am recipient and my obligation is over in 4 months. I cannot wait! I think it will all depend on where you end up to fulfill your obligation. Finding a job right off the bat is not easy. I ended up at a community clinic in Los Angeles that hardly provided any training- somehow I've managed leading our compliance with joint commission and developed a stronger infection control program among other duties. I am somewhat thankful for the experience, but I'm determined to leave and find a job that will support my professional development and not just pile administrative duties on me.. As a new grad, make sure they give you training.

I am also a recipient of this scholarship. I'm in the service part now. I just accepted a position with IHS in New Mexico

Anybody have any updates on this ?

Hi Scoope23, BSN, RN

My name is Heather and I am planning on applying to the Nurse Corp Scholarship this application cycle. Do you have any tips or advice on the application process? Or do you know if it is worth applying even if my EFC is not zero? I have been accepted to an accelerated DNP program as a family nurse practitioner, and this scholarship would be so amazing. Thank you for your time, and congrats on receiving this excellent award.

Hi Heather,

First off, congrats on your acceptance to the DNP program! That's great!

I would recommend you apply for the scholarship even if your EFC is not 0. I believe they look at your application as a whole and if your goals are in line with the program's goals. If so, I'm sure you'll still be eligible and a competitive candidate. I heard of past winners that didn't have an EFC of 0, so applying definitely doesn't hurt.

As far as tips are concerned, I would recommend giving yourself plenty of time to apply so you can get all the required documentation in. Most likely everyone is going to be applying with a strong GPA, so really focus on your essays. Be clear and concise when responding to every question while keeping the program's goal in mind when answering. Don't be afraid to open up and get personal so you can better connect with your reader.

After you've applied, if the scholarship administrators check your credit then that is a good sign of you being considered for the award. So keep an eye out on your credit report for a check from them.

I wish you the best as you apply. If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask or PM me.
