Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi--I just registered at allnurses.com, but I've been "trolling" for about a month. I am amazed at how much support and advice everyone here gives/gets. I am currently taking my pre-reqs while working full time (in an office) and being a single mom. After this semester I can apply for the LPN program--I decided to do it this way because it's faster, and my school has a LPN-RN bridge that the only requirement (after graduating lpn) is to have 1000 hours documented as an lpn to finish the RN. I have bills/rent to pay, and no help--I can't just go to school! Anyway, I guess I'm posting just to introduce myself, and maybe meet some people who are in similar situations. I can apply after this semester (fall, '09), then there is a waiting list (of course). But there are other classes that I will eventually need (for RN program) that I can take during that time, plus I'm planning on getting my CNA certification next term. I'm hoping to become a CNA during nursing school, since I know I will not be able to keep my (8-5) job once I start; but I definitely need income (student loans are handy, but they don't pay all the bills:wink2:)

Anyhoo, anyone else out there? What's your story?

I'm a soon-to-be 35 year old full-time student. I went back to school three years ago. A year after that, I changed my major to nursing. I was recently turned down for the Fall 09 semester, but have rolled over my application for the Spring and have been told that things look good. I was turned down because of a grade I received in a Psych class I took 17 years ago (intro to psych requirement). I retook it this summer.

While I wait to hear about Spring, I'm taking some of the upper division courses for the nursing major (general education) and have earned two associate's degrees. Right now I'm doing very part time work and also volunteering for Hospice which is absolutely incredibly rewarding.

Your plan does sound great!! I love this site too... so much valuable info! I have my CNA as well yet it's really hard finding work right now and I didn't know before hand that most CNA's work in nursing home's which I'm not sure I'm cut out for that. I think by taking some courses online..it can help manage your time better. I'm doing my basic classes to and currently i have american government online and humanities east west synthesis.. and I've taken both composition courses online as well as a few others. (I choose not to take math or sciences online however because those are the hardest courses for me)
