NET Scores for Samuel Merritt?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi there!

For those of you who got accepted into SM would you mind sharing your NET scores, and which program you got into to?

I am trying to decide if i should take them again or not, based on the scores of people who did get in.

My composite score was 82.

I will be applying to both the ABSN and the ELMSN......thanks!

Hi guys,

I'm applying for the Samuel Merritt Fall 2009 entry (regular BSN program, not accelerated). I just recently took my NET (last Saturday..still waiting on the results!). I was hoping that anyone who reads this could list their GPA and NET score and whether they were accepted/declined -- if this information isn't too personal, of course. I think it would really help me out!

I took the TEAS twice, but as most of you know, the TEAS isn't accepted at SMC. However, since I'm also going to apply to Sac, SFSU, and CSUEB, I had to get the TEAS under my belt as well. My first score was an 83.5% on the TEAS. I then retook it hoping to get atleast a 90% (which unfortunately I didn't..) and got an 87.6% which is where I stand right now.

I'm hoping to do well on the NET, but I'm still waiting for those darn results to come in the mail! They said 10 days and it's only been 8...but I have to admit I'm very impatient. Especially since my GPA is not competitive with most of their applicants (I have approximately a 3.62GPA in their prereqs..) and I know I need a really good letter, essay, and NET score to make up for my poor GPA (I have two C's on record--Stats & Chemistry). However, I also have Organic Chem which is recommended but not required. I also did a C.N.A. course and am a volunteer at John Muir and am Treasurer of our college pre-nursing club.

If anyone out there knows my chances of getting in to the BSN program (I'm looking to get in for Spring 2010, even though I'm applying for Fall 2009..I heard it's easier to get in for the Spring!), I'd love some feedback. And/or if anyone out there is willing to share their GPA/Net scores, I'd be greatly appreciative.

I'd love to know, as well.

When are you applying to CSUEB? I wanted to apply there for Fall 2009 quarter, but I missed the deadline; I didn't know you had to submit the nursing supplemental application with the CSU application by last November, so I only submitted the CSU application. :crying2: It was a major oversight on my part.

I took the NET last Saturday, the 14th, at Samuel Merritt's Oakland campus. I received my score today, and my composite score is a 91%, which is in the 98th percentile. :D I'm pretty happy with my score, though I thought I did a lot better on the reading comprehension portion, but it turns out I only got an 85%. Anyway, I hope my score is good enough to qualify me for both SM's BSN and ABSN programs, since I'm applying to both for Fall 2009.

I'd be so happy if I got into either SM or Sac State. I hope to get into at least one of these schools. The competitiveness is really making me nervous. :uhoh3:

That's so funny since I was there taking the NET with you too! However, I haven't yet received my scores in the mail. Congratulations on the 91%!!! Really, that's awesome! Mind if I ask what your GPA for Samuel Merritt is? Mine's low, so I'm really baking on my NET and letter of reference and essay to help me out.

I applied for CSUEB for Fall 2009. I'm so sorry you didn't fill out the supplemental application in time! The whole process is very confusing, I know. I'm expecting to transfer out of pre-nursing for the Spring 2009 semester, so I'll have to deal with this whole application process again in August! Ugh!!

Do you know if Samuel Merritt will automatically receive our NET scores if we already put in our applications for Fall 2009?

Goodluck on getting in! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Hey bluechick,

Thanks for wishing me good luck. :D Good luck to you, too!! (((Sending good thoughts and positive energry your way)))

In regards to my GPA: If you take a course over, does Samuel Merritt take both grades into consideration, or just the second/higher grade? I got a C in physiology the first time I took it, so I took it over and got an A. I also got a C+ and B- the first time I took English 1A and Stats, respectively, during my first year of college (when I was more interested in my social life than in getting good grades). I took both classes over and got As in both. I'm hoping Samuel Merritt will only take into consideration the higher grade (I think they do this for ABSN), because if so, I'd have a near 4.0 (I got an A- in both general and organic chemistry, so it wouldn't quite be a 4.0). If they calculate both grades into the GPA, then it'll definitely be less than 4.0. :o :uhoh3: I'll have to rely on my NET, recommendation letter, and personal essay if both grades are taken into account.

Oh, I think SM will automatically receive our NET scores. I'll have to double check on this, though!

I'm not sure about re-taking classes. I've never re-taken any so I never looked into it.

You're very lucky your college allows you to re-take classes in which you got a C. My college only allows you to re-take a course if you got a D or below which left me with a C in Stats and a C in Chemistry. Unfortunately, I'm stuck. I took both of those classes, as you say, "when I was more interested in my social life than in getting good grades" so it's really my fault in the end, but it's just a shame since I'm so dedicated now to getting into Nursing. I have somewhere around a 3.6GPA for Samuel Merritt, which is low (obviously). I guess i'm really praying for a miracle.

I have a friend who got in with a 3.6GPA for the Spring '09 semester and she said people from her class got in with as low as a 3.2GPA in Spring after having applied and been rejected from the previous Fall semester. I guess it's just that much easier to get into Spring semesters than Fall (although still difficult, of course).

After you had mentioned you got your NET scores back I RAN down the hill to see if they were in the mail box. No luck. I guess they have to come tomorrow...they did say the scores would arrive in about 10 days from the testing date. I'll keep my fingers crossed! I saw some people on this site saying they waited up to two weeks and still no results..!

I just got my scores! (Finally!)

I also got a 91% (in the 98th percentile)!!! Congrats to us! I'm also surprised I didn't do as well in the reading comprehension portion. I rechecked that section a billion times. But I got 100% on all my math skills. It was the written expression and basic science stuff that got me.

Anyway...thanks for all your help!

Hi,

I am hopping someone knows the answer.... I have taken NET two times and first time did better in math but second time did better in English. Can Samuel Merritt take one test result from each section or do they look at one test only? HELP!!! Thanks!

Lol, if only the world were so simple. But to answer your question, no. They only look at one test (I've heard they pay particular attention to what percentile you scored in).

Hi to all,

I was wondering if anyone on here ended up getting in for the fall 2009 SMC entry.

For SM's traditional two-year BSN program, I am #7 on the wait list.

Thanks! I'm also on the waitlist for the traditional BSN program. Unfortunately last fall they only admitted 3 or 4 people off their waitlist so I'm not too hopeful. Just keeping my fingers crossed :)
