Is Micro harder/easier than A&P?

Ok, I just finished up an 8 week course of A&P 1, and have started an 8 week course of A&P2. I am considering taking Microbiology in a summer session (which is also 8 weeks) but am curious - is micro more difficult than A&P?

I don't know a lot about it, what's covered, how lab is, etc. So I'm wondering if it's manageable.

I'd love your input.

You should do fine in micro-- considering you took Ap1 in 8 weeks and aced it. Besides, in ap the 3rd chapter is about cellular organelle/ metabolism. I think you will succeed in micro. Don't be too stressed about it. It's just like another science class. Seems like science is your area of perfection :).

My college does not have an option of taking science courses (or any others) in 8 weeks. We have that option only in summer. But I like the idea of getting classes over with in a shorter session.

Yes, it is nice to be able to complete these courses in 8 weeks. The a&p is in a regular semester - so you knock out both in just 4 months. I was really concerned I wouldn't do well, but surprised myself!

The micro is a summer course, and I have the option of taking it in the summer as opposed to the full 16 week session in the fall.

I think it's easier to focus on 1 subject in a short period of time as opposed to taking more time, and also more classes. Just focusing on the one subject makes it easier for me.

I don't know if science is my area of perfection, but I'll take it...LOL! Thanks!

if you aced anp in 8 weeks you can definately do micro.. its a little memorization but not nearly as much as ap ive never had to study so long for a freaking test.. in my anatomy class ive already put in 30 hours on the first test.. =/ youll do fine for micro but also it depends on the teacher you should look at ratemyprofessor.. if the teacher is hard i would only assume hell be harder in that course.. but maybe hell go easy because its 8 weeks.. but i doubt it.. if you should choose to do that id recommend learning about the worms.. gram - and gram + bacteria and the test you should do to eliminate that.. that will save you a lot of time when you get there..

Is it Micro&Pathology? My instructor said that we basically cover two semesters worth in one and that it should be broken into 2 semesters like general bio and A/P.. take that for what it's worth. I'm sure an 8 week course is doable with hard work.

I'm not sure I've heard of that, but general biology and anatomy are separated. I did A&P 1 in 8 weeks, very tough but I made an A in lecture and lab. I'm in A&P 2 now - 8 weeks as well. It's a TON of work, but I feel it's easier simply because you don't have to remember it all over such a long period of time (16 weeks). It seems almost easier to live and breath a subject for 8 weeks.

I haven't fully decided on what I'll do with Micro - it would be more convenient to get it over with in the summer.

As for what kind of micro - it's Medical Microbiology - the same course required by all college nursing programs. I haven't seen it separated into 2 courses - maybe it is done like that in some places?

I've never seen it separated either .. but I'm thinking medical micro and micro & pathology are probably similar if not the exact same course. It's the course required for all the nursing programs here in Houston. :)

It HIGHLY depends on the teacher, so I would double check on www.ratemyprefessors.com before you sign-up for the class and see what the previous students say about the teacher. If there is no rating or if you need further assurence I would try to track down some of his/her current students after class and ask them if they have any advice about the class/teacher.

The difficulty of Micro, I think, solely depends on the professor. The labs are extremely easy and that is actually what I miss most about Micro. Good Luck!

Thanks! I'm beginning to change my thoughts of the whole summer session...because of the exact issue you mentioned. The professor - it's my only choice - and he's not that good. I mean he's very difficult and doesn't necessarily prepare you well for tests. So I'm thinking if I took it in the longer semester at least I'd have more time to learn everything I need to learn outside of class. Hopefully!

I don't know - it's a tough decision! I wish I had a better professor to pick from.

I'm going to ask around at school too - and see what more ppl think of him.
