Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Im looking to apply for Merced college's nursing program for this fall as well as other nursing schools in my area. I've been having trouble finding any reviews on here about their program! Has anyone here been in or applied to their nursing program? Any information you have is greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Oh that's cool! I'll have to commute from Stockton if I get iní ½í¸” but I know it'll be worth it! I've been having a hard time finding any reviews on merceds nursing program, how is it ?

I have commuted from Merced to Stockton for work -- it seems long but once you get used to it, it doesn't seem bad. And I know 60 people get in (plus some alternates) and half of the accepted students will start Fall 2016 and the other half Spring 2017. My friend is wrapping up her first semester at Merced and she says she really likes it. She said the instructors and administration are helpful and that her classmates really stick together and help each other if/when its needed :) I also found on Merced's websites that all the clinical sites are local besides the rotation at the Children's Hospital in Madera

That makes me feel so much better, thanks! When I drove to drop off my application it seemed like a long time. But an hour isn't so bad. As long as I'm in nursing school I'll be happy! That's great.. I can't wait to get that letter in the mail. I've been checking everyday just in case. They said around mid-May.. so it's coming soon! :laugh:

Hi guys,

I currently reside in Orange County, CA and took all my prerequisites over here at two different schools. Beginning in February I took a couple of trips from here to Merced to satisfy their application criteria, met with counselors, and obtained proper signatures. The 6hr drive there and back was super stressful considering I am taking an EMT course, work 30 hours a week as a Special Ed aide, and 20 hours as a caregiver to a client that has Cerebral Palsy. This morning after what seemed like an eternity of waiting I received two letters of correspondence from Merced and my hands grew instantly very sweaty as I pulled them out of the mailbox, after recognizing the Merced logo. I opened both letters and unfortunately the first letter informed me that I was NOT selected for both their FALL 2016 and Spring 2017 session, however; the letter went on to explain that although I had not been selected to start the program but that I was selected as an alternative and placed on the alternative list. The second letter has instructions of completing some slip with a "I will attend the mandatory orientation" or "I will not attend". It explains that if I do not attend that I will lose my alternative spot and removed from the list.

My questions are what are the odds of being selected from the alternative list to start that given term? Do a lot of applicants get placed on the alternative list? Should I bother making the long drive there if there is probably a great chance of not being chosen or should I just apply next year instead? Does anyone know anyone in the program that can give a probability of selection from the alternative list?

Super bummed and stressed here :(

Hi! I am sorry you didn't get in... I am still waiting for my letter.. aahhhh I am anxious!

As for the alternates, last year my friend was an alternate and actually got accepted. I do not know what her alternate number was. A bunch of alternates did not show up to that orientation, moving her up. Also, two students who got accepted to the RN program actually didn't turn in some required forms and lost their spot, moving my friend up even more spots. I would contact the school first thing Monday morning and explain your situation and see if they will cut you some slack since you are so far. Best of luck and I hope you get in (there is still a chance!)

That sounds really tough that you had to commute 6 hours. I don't know anything about the alternates, but from what FutureRN1993 is saying, I would still hold on to hope about getting in. What usually happens is people are accepted at other schools or things come up, so alternates are given spots. Is your alternate number a high one?

You received your letter really quick! I hope I get mine soon the wait is killing me!
