Maybe im not a nurse

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I got a "d" as my final grade in anatomy and physiology 1. I studied hard and joined a study group! So now I'm discouraged and thinking maybe I'm not cut out! If I can't pass this how can I pass nursing? Signed so depressed!

I may not be following the AN 'party line' here, but . .

If you did everything you could, put forth all the effort, etc. & were unable to be successful in A&P, you may be right. Health care may not be right for you. This doesn't mean you're a failure or dumb. Brains are just different, and your talent and ability lies elsewhere.

There used to be a very successful little psych book called "Who Moved My Cheese". It was all about what happens when a person fails to realize that things have changed; when they keep trying to do something that just doesn't work. It's just not healthy to force yourself to put enormous amounts of energy into a no-win effort & keep beating yourself up when you repeatedly fail. It's better to acknowledge that it just isn't working and move on to something in which you can be successful.

What courses have you really liked? Made high grades with less effort? Take a second look at what this may mean in terms of a career. If your school offers guidance counseling services, see if you can take a "career battery" that helps clarify your areas of interest/talent.

Best wishes & have a wonderful holiday.

For me I know this is what I want to do, and like air, I need it. I need to have the knowledge to save lives, I need to make patients lives a little better, I need to ensure they're getting the best care and I need to have RN after my name. There is no "maybe I can't", I will. So maybe this isn't for you, find something though that you couldn't live without doing!!

I'm with Chelsea ^… I KNOW down to my bones this is what I want and that I was created for this. Do you feel that drive? Are there other subjects that you feel strongly about?

I've been a cna for the past ten years and I love working in healthcare! After I posted this I looked on blackboard and I actually made a c for final grade a 70. Which is still terrible. I've always wanted to be a nurse but this class was really challenging for me maybe because I work full time have six kids and volunteer. If I choose to continue in the program ill have to get my priorities in line. I may wait until all my children are in school that will help a lot! Although I have already been accepted to an lvn program I was just trying to get some of my RN pre reqs out the way before I start lvn in January! Which is an online program with clinicals on Saturday and sunday. Thanks everyone ill surely spend the next few weeks in deep thought

Just as we give second chances to others, we should do it for ourselves too. Maybe a different instructor will make a difference for you.

I had a friend who got a D grade in the same class and had to retake it and got an A! You never know...

Congrats on getting into the LVN program! :nurse:

I did horrible in some of my nursing classes. I did well on L&D and Pediatrics but I do not work in those fields now, nor have I ever worked there.

Don't give up. Try a different studying method. It took me a minute to understand "critical thinking" and I had no experience in the health care field prior to nursing school. Some of us are just slow-learners. For me, I am a visual and hands-on learner. The more I am around something, the more it sticks to my brain.

Best of luck!

Don't give up. The first time I took A&P 1 I made an F. This time around I scored two points away from an A. It is possible if you try harder. Good luck on the lvn program!

Don't beat yourself up too bad. It seems that this semester you had a pretty big load. You can always retake the class again later on to try for a better grade. I had 2 really bad semesters when I first moved to VA (where I live now) from FL (where I lived for the first 20 years of my life), and I can say I definitely felt like I would never get accepted into a program because I just wasn't cut out for it. 3 years later Ive been accepted into a BSN program and like I said before, I KNOW this is where I need to be. Take the winter break to relax and wipe the slate clean. You got into the LVN program for a reason :) Good luck!

In my city, most people I know have retaken classes. Personally, my first prereq was Chem, I earned a B. my next prereq was A&P, which I nearly failed so I dropped. I went on to earn As in A&P when I repeated it as well as As in every prereq since.

You Can Do It!

Perseverance, not sheer intelligence alone, will see you to your goal!

Thanks do much for all of your opinions and the encouragement!
