Is anyone doing Intro to Inorganic Chem or General Cell Bio Fall?

I thought it might be neat to have a long distance study buddy. I'm doing both in Fall and I'm a little bit nervous. I took intro to chemistry in Spring and my class was really disorganized (our teacher left a few weeks in) so if anyone else is doing Inorganic Chem or General Cell bio in Fall Quarter, let me know and maybe we can compare notes and help each other out. see one do one teach one and everything :)

Hi,

I am doing intro to general chemistry. What topics are you studying right now?

Hi! I ended up deciding against Chem because I wanted to focus on bio. So this quarter I'm doing General Cell bio, Communications 101, and Library Science (lol it's 2 credits, I just needed to be full time)

Then next quarter I'm thinking A&P I and Inorganic chem, then the next quarter A&P II and Microbiology. I'm not super happy about doubling up on science classes but oh well

Well, I guess desperate times call for desperate measures! I will be taking my pre-reqs for a few more semesters mostly because 1) I want to take it slow and get nice grades and 2) I have to take chem 100 with lab, chem 120 with lab that must be taken consecutively, and A&P I and A&P II, taken consecutively. And I cannot take chem and A&P together, since all chem courses are prereqs for A&P courses. This semester I am taking chem 100 with a lab and the stupid genetics class.

Taking it slow is probably a good choice! My GPA suffered a little from a B in chem and an A- in Psych 100, so I'm hoping I get lots more A's to balance everything out, haha. That's interesting that chem is a prereq for A&P, our only A&P prereq is General cell bio.

Are you excited for Chemistry? I really enjoyed it. What prereqs have you taken?

I am actually enjoying chemistry! I did really well in chem in high school (which was over a decade ago!), but I still love it! I mean, it is not only about the content, it is about the way of delivery! The professor is a really great one! Since the class is huge, 670 students, we use iclickers to earn participation points. On top of that we have 4 exams, weekly homework and extra credit! I love the fact she provides us with so many opportunities to earn an A!!! However, I cannot say the same about genetics or the prof teaching it. It is the worst, by far, course and the professor I have ever taken! And, I have earn two degrees by now! She has no idea how to deliver the content in ways that is understandable by students that have never had any experience with any kind of science. On top of that, she assigns meaningless assignments, and gives quizzes/tests that do not measure our mastery of the content, but rather an ability to listen. For example, we were asked to watch a 10 min video about genetic revolution presented by some guy at Ted. Clearly, the audience was someone who has had tons of experience in that field of science. I have not! I was lost beyond belief! Right in the middle of the video, when I thought I was getting the gist of %^^& was going on, a question pops! I mean, really? Needless to say I had no idea how to answer. I was still processing information from 5 minutes ago! I guess you will not understand what I mean. I have been a teacher of speakers of other languages, and me, being a second language learner myself, when I have to listen to the content unfamiliar to me, I pay too much effort to process new information rather than understanding it and then internalizing it. So, which is why I feel like assessments in this class are not constructed to measure what an assessment is supposed to measure.

Next semester I will be taking organic chem with lab and intro to psych. In the summer term I am hoping to take nutrition and human development: life span!

Thanks for letting me vent!
