Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, I'm currently a student at a community college. After this semester i'm aiming to have a 2.9 GPA and the required at Saint xavier is a 2.75. Are my chances of getting in any good? i'm scared that ill fail if i don't get accepted. I know others will have better GPA, but this is my dream to become a nurse.

Well you certainly meet their minimum GPA requirement, but they probably have other requirements as well. So just as long as you meet all other requirements you are good to apply. Can you work on improving your GPA? Retake classes? Take fluff courses?

I would suggest aiming for a much higher GPA and acing the required admission tests. Although they do have minimums, most nursing school applicants will have a much higher GPA - at least 3.5. Perhaps you can get in tough with the university to find out what their average accepted GPA is? Additionally, it looks like they will want a strong essay and test scores from you, so start preparing for those exams and working on your writing skills. Nursing school is very competitive; put yourself in the best possible position to be accepted.

Thats what im trying to do. But i didnt do so well in one class and thats whats dragging me down. The minimum is a 2.7 and i should have a 2.98 by the the time fall semester ends. Yes, i also have to score proficient on the TEAS V exam. But since its only fall admission i have another semester which is spring to get it up even higher. But dont they just look at the GPA at time of applying? Or when i offically transfer?

To be honest, no. You need a much, much higher GPA. The min at my school is 2.5 but you don't get in the RN program unless it's a 3.7 and above and a 4.0 in the classes they look at. If it was truly your dream, you would have worked harder in your classes. I don't mean that to be harsh, just reality. Saying it's your dream like the rest of us who worked hard doesn't matter because it's your dream. There are plenty of people who dream of being a nurse with a better GPA.

Ditto to what everyone else says. Speak to a NURSING adviser from the school you wish to apply. At my community college I think there is no minimum GPA to apply but the standing average to get accepted is 3.0/3.2. So I'm aiming for a 3.5. Talk to someone from the actual program

It would depend on the school; if they told you already what you need on your entrance exam, then that should be it.

As far as GPA; depending on the school if you are transferring in and meet their requirements, GPA is not officially transferred in, just the credits that they accept; you start again with a new GPA, at least on my experience-it's best to find out how they transfer credits in.
