I Can"t Stand It Anymore!!!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am so depressed, the class is so hard and my teacher has been such a jerk. Two students left in the class, ridiculous! His pi$$ poor patice tests are full of obscure questions and there is no answer key to any of these. My buddy and I (the two ONLY ones left) are excellent students and he refuses to help us with the questions on his p...poor practice test. I am completely overwhelmed by the material and his lectures suck and he names every last thing differently than in the book....he is the WORST teacher anyone could end up with....alot of stuff he never told us about or where he got the info from....he also teaches A&P 2 and I swear you need to take A&P2 WITH HIM or you will not do well in A&P1. You need to have a Phd in Biochemistry also or you will be fishtailing in his course......I CAN"T STAND IT ANYMORE also he cannot tell us how many tests we have left before the final, he won't say!!!!! It drives me nuts!!!!! I am currently making an A witlh him BUT it is killing me and I am not kidding. When it's all said and done the department will get a letter from me, explaining my experience and asking them why this nutcase of a professor is teaching at their school.

During lab today he told us that a woman started screaming at him during a final.......Duhhh I can see why, I might do the same thing on Dec 6.....God help me through this, I am going nuts trying to study for the upcoming lecture test on Tues. With him you don't know where to begin to study he is so chaotic and is EVERYWHERE. It doesn't do good to read a chapter ahead of time since he "doesn't like the book" refers to everything differently and has his own resources and doesn't tell us where to get that information!!!!!!

I have never cried as much as in this class, I feel so hopeless and defeated. My family is also suffering from this, I have no time for anything.

Wow! I don't know what else to say except to hang in there, you're almost through this......

How many people were in the class when you started? I'm sorry, but if a class only had 2 students by the end of the semester bells should go off for the department head....I can't beleive that the school is not auditing his class.....

I have a professor a little like that, too...I am working on my BSN and am having to take physiology (even though I've had A&P 1 & 2). My class is online and he doesn't like anatomy books either...even told me that my med/surg book is flat wrong. I just look at it as a hoop I have to jump through if I want my BSN (or whatever degree you're working on.) I can't stand the professor, can't stand the class...but no matter how much I can't stand it, I want my BSN more. It sounds like you're doing really well and have stuck it out. You're almost there, and think of how proud you'll be when you're finished. And then when the semester is finished, make your voice be heard!

I am so sorry you are going through this. This is my worst semester by far too. My patho professor jumps around so much not to mention the class is suppose to be about the the study of diseases and how they function but its more like a review class for A&P I and II. He barely lectures on the patho stuff and when he does, he goes off on his rants about politics, religion, and race issues. I cant stand his class anymore.

Then my other class, the professor is just as bad if not worse. She is very condescending, for example, one of the students was having trouble with her computer in lab, so professor came over to help her only to tell her to move to another computer to double up with another student because that computer was broken. A different student leaned over to help her (which she knew what she was doing) and the professor turned around and started screaming at her for no reason. "This is my class, if you think you know so much then why dont you get up here and teach it" The student was appologetic and kept saying she was only trying to help, not step on her toes. The professor flat out told her that she knows perfectly well what she was doing and told the student to leave the classroom. She didnt want her in her class anymore. The rest of us watched in disbelief and we all thought that she just fell off her rocker. It was the more irresponsible and unprofessional behavior that I have ever seen.

I feel for you, I really do. Professors like this need not be teaching and why they still do baffles me. If I can stick it out till the end which is Dec 16 for me, you can too. Since you are maintaining an A just keep doing what you have been doing and take it day by day. I know its hard but try not to let this professor get to you. Good luck to you!

Sorry I think I might have hijacked your thread a bit...Ooops :(

*dies* is there anyway you can take A&P2 with another teacher? Another school?

I wouldn't wait until the end of the semester to write a letter. I would go marching into a counselers office first, see if they can help you maybe. If theres another teacher teaching the course, maybe you and your friend could transfer? Otherwise, I would happily go marching to people until I endded up with the dean.

How many people startted out in the class that it's now down to two?

We've lost quite a few in our A&P course, but theres quite of a few of us still holding on. Some people have even managed A's, but then there's those like me who are clinging to our C's trying to keep them.

Good luck though!

Congratualtions on maintaining an A! That's Awesome.

What a nightmare :o

I am so sorry. I would definitely forward my review of the instructor to whomever cares to read it.

At my school it is mandatory that we fill out instructor and staff evaluations (anonymous) at the end of each semester. Also, they are always readily available to submit whenever in a drop box.

Instructors are not allowed to be in the room when we evaluate them. The assistant dean collects them, types them and goes over the reviews with the instructor.

Instructors are supposed to learn from these and if needed make changes.

Again, bless your heart. Congrats on the A and good luck :balloons:

The only problem I see with that is that there are only 2 of them. My guess is that both reviews will be totally negative. Not hard to guess who wrote the bad ones! Tough situation.

Woogy

Stick it out. And then stick it to him when you get the eval. There HAS to be something wrong when practically the entire class disappears. The school would be foolish not to see that.

As for my own experience, I had a Dean of Nursing (from H***). She wanted to keep us from having our pinning ceremony (saying it was an antiquated ceremony) I fought (as the student rep for the year). I had to go above her head (which I did) and we had our pinning (without her). It was beautiful, and we were all grateful for the recognition that pinning offered. We had worked hard for that, and had earned it.

2 years later, I ran into a prof. who asked what happened with our ceremony. I told the prof that we had it, but had been told by the Dean that the instructors were not to be told, because they didn't want to hear about it or participate. The prof was in total disbelief, I told the prof what an awful (rhymes with) witch, the dean was and that if she didn't have an interest in the students she should retire. That she was making everyone miserable by maintaining her position.:angryfire :angryfire

You are paying for your education and have a right to some acceptable level of service. They should see you essentially as a "customer". And your money can be spent at another school with professors who are actually interested in teaching.

p.s. After talking with another nurse who mentored at clinical sites, I find I am not the only one with opinions of this dean and her behavior - it has leaked into the profession outside the college walls. Speak up for future students too.

Thank you EVERYONE for your kind responses!!!!! I'll say more when I have gained my strength back......, I am studying my butt off for the lecture test on Tues. I WANT to be a nurse so I HAVE to stick it out till Dec 6 and get the highest possible testscores.

Thank you guys again for your support:redpinkhe :redpinkhe :redpinkhe :redpinkhe :redpinkhe

Can you tape record his class and study directly from that? I did that in a class, granted it was a history class. I didn't crack the book. Just studied his lecture notes and made an "A" in the class. This class sounds like it really stinks.
