Hello!

I am new to this forum but have been lurking for quite sometime and can see how helpful you guys are. I was hoping I can get some advise on my decision.

So I already have a BA in psychology but decided to pursue nursing instead (should have just went with this instead). I started looking into accelerated BSN programs to become an RN. Unfortunately my undergraduate career has been riddled with bad grades because of a rough home life, depression caused by my grandmother dying and then my dad dying back to back and abusive relationship. I feel lucky that I even finished my degree because I honestly thought it wasn't going to happen. Unfortunately because of all this my ending GPA was quite low.... 2.4 :(

I know a GPA like that isn't competitive at all but I really want to purse Nursing. I am finally somewhat in a mentally healthy place and know what I need to do.

SO my question is since my GPA is low should I try to pursue an LPN and then go for an RN license?

Or

Should I just go for the RN license... My only hope at making it into an accelerated program is that I still need to take my prerequisite classes and I'm hoping that getting all A's should help me out a lot.

I know you guys are brutally honest and realistic so have at it! :)

Also if you would like to recommend some programs for me feel free!

Having a bachelors degree already, I'd suggest you go straight for the RN. You are correct; you will need to bring those grades up in order to be competitive. This may mean repeating some courses that you've already taken.
