How's the Semester Going?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Finished the second week of the semester. With all of this crazy weather it has been very hard. My son is constantly either on a 2 hour delay or his school is closed. And we are getting more snow this weekend and the temp is supposed to drop even further next week. Really? It was -10 this morning. I could not do this without my friends to help me out on days that I need it. So with all this craziness I have not missed a class so far.

I am enjoying most of my classes so far. I have Psych, Sociology, Math, and Advanced Physiology. Loving my Physiology class. It's so interesting. Just got done writing a paper on GLUT transporters. I think I will like my psych class too. Sociology not so much. But it should be an interesting semester.

Yikes, -10? So glad it doesn't get that cold in Georgia. It has gotten down in the 20's though.

I completed my second week as well. I'm enjoying all of my classes so far. I have been staying on top of my work and working ahead so I won't get behind. It has been hard trying to adjust to working and going to school! I'm doing good though. I've made A's on all graded assignments thus far.

The weather has been awful here too. -20 and colder, even during the day. Not that unusual for northern midwest, but it is unusual for it to be this consistent. If it's not that cold, it's snowing. My schools never close either. My car doesn't handle well in the ice/snow so I'm thinking about dropping the grand for new wheels and tires. Bleh. And I got it a new battery last summer and I don't think it's going to last through the winter.

I am just taking A&P, yoga, medical terminology online, a nursing assistant class, and then when that ends the first aid/CPR class will start. The CNA class isn't hard but it's nearly 10 hours a week while it's going so it's been hard to keep up on A&P and other things so I'm looking forward to it being over. A&P is only one semester at my school and it goes fast, and my teacher seems to like being intimidating. First medical terminology test will be Thursday and A&P on Friday.

Also trying to plan a wedding in 5 months, dealing with difficult parents, thought I'd have more time on my hands this semester than I do so pretty much not getting anything done there.

I was just thinking that I'm so thankful for apps like quizlet and zygote so that I can easily study during downtime at work and other things. I can't imagine doing all this pre-internet.

Weather is cold here too - even as low as -20 plus -40 to -60 wind chills. It's nuts.

Semester is good! Have my first A&P exam on Thursday. I'm taking Microbio this semester as well.

Just took the TEAS today and sending in my application for Fall 2014!!!

I use study blue (similar to quiz let) and I LOVE IT! I can upload images too, so I have all my histology images there to study the tissues.

So far the semester is going good... Classes for me started back on the 8th but I am still having a hard time getting my head back in the game and finding my rhythm for studying again; the holiday break was so nice! I think I am caught up worrying about if I will get into the program or not that I haven't been as focused as last semester :/ I have to keep reminding myself to be in the present.

Yes! That has been some of my problem. The only way to cure that is to keep yourself busy. When I'm working or at school I don't think about it as much, but when I have down time that's all I think about. Racking my brain worrying about if I will get accepted or not. No fun!

Hello everyone! I think I see a trend in a few of your posts. I too have had a difficult time switching gears since returning from break. I would imagine it is pretty normal the first couple of weeks. I've had a bit of denial going on, however over the last few days, I've since started to turn a corner, as I'm slowly but surely pulling back in mentally. As we all know, we can't let a course, especially something like Anatomy, or other science(s) get too far ahead of us.

I have been very fortunate, because I have the MOST incredible Anatomy teacher on the face of the planet. Her career is her passion, and she's basically married to teaching anatomy. She hosts open labs both Saturday and Sunday for a few hours each day. This has helped me so much, especially as I learn to hone in my microscope skills. I switched cc's to have this teacher and I am SO happy I did.

Anyway, keep pushing! We can do this!

I'm taking 4 classes this semester, a nice break after taking sciences and an upper level English in the 5 week summer term, and 5 classes in fall. My only challenging classes are organic/biochem and medical terminology. Neither is super challenging actually, just a lot of memorization.

I'm also taking a health class and sociology. I have already been accepted to a BSN program for fall - just trying to take it easy while waiting to hear back from other schools before the craziness starts up!

Here in Mississippi its been a cross between 9 degrees and 65 degrees in the same week! Its crazy early in the mornings walking from one building to another heading to class. But otherwise, I LOVE IT!

Human Growth and Development is amazing. I wish this class were the longer one! But I am happy that I have it 3x per week. Its my first class of the day and keeps me going!

Music Appreciation, I was feeling it at first. But when we started watching YouTube several times in a class period, I began to get concerned. I can do this at home! I am paying to watch YouTube?! Really?! Our first test is Friday and we have to attend 3 concerts this semester and a concert report with each one. If I can get to a symphony performance, it counts as two!

Math Lab is definitely interesting. We all work at our own pace and the hour passes very quickly. Today me, fractions, absolute value and division had a battle! Needless to say, I lost! But my average in this class is a 93!

A&P I is interesting needless to say! I am very excited about this class and wish I had it more than once a week! I have my first quiz on Chapter 1 tomorrow and I have been giving the instructor the what for on her notes not matching the text! LOL...but hey, its ok she says! (I bet)! I am just determined to grasp all of this material and do it with finesse! (Yeah, right)! LOL

Stress level increases quite a bit, but I think I manage well. I use the Visual Anatomy app on my phone to help me study, notecard/flashcards and looking into the coloring book for A&P. My oldest son is taking Music Appreciation at the high school and we are pretty much learning the same thing. So we have several conversations regarding this as well!
