How to improve on kaplan entrance exam

So I went to take the Kaplan at brenau university. I did it to see what it was like. I have been taking my time to study the physiology section so i didn5 expect to get an amazing score yet since I had only studied the digestive blood and heart and figured I'd just wait to see what was really covered in the math word problems. I figured I'd survive reading like everyone usually does. Then I took the test. I failed the worst in this order: science a 55, reading a 59, writing s 62 and math a 75. I didn't study for any other sections yet so I am trying to find good tips or supplemental tools other says helped them for reading and writing. Those are the only two o had trouble with. I'll be fine once I finish cover is other systems in physiology. Any tips or tools you think helped you would be greatly appreciated. I am going to retake it again March 13th and then again in march at another school ( my school of choice gwinnett tech) thanks everyone! !!

Did you retake the Kaplan? If so how did you do? Was it the same questions as the first time? I am going to retake mine again this upcoming week but nervous as I have not really studied much. I slacked due to mid-terms and finals. I hope to hit the book this weekend and review my AP notes! Any information is helpful! Thx!

I retook this exam. I first made really low with a 64 but when I retook it it was an 87 so I must have done the right thing lol.

For math, I used the pre-nursing entrance exam study guide for the NLN because the math was very similar. The questions were the exact same ones, not a single deviation from the first time I tested, and I mean that for the entire exam.

I used The Scott, Foresman Handbook for Writers for the areas that our paper with the Kaplan test info designated for the writing section such as mechanics, sub-verb agreement, and all parts on how to use commas. This book was our Engl 1101 textbook and is worth the purchase if it means getting into the program am I right?

For reading I used the not-so-great Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam Guide. I didn't find the practice very helpful and to be honest, it's because there are only a few passages to do. However, I did find that the section that teaches you tips on how to tackle reading comprehension questions was very worth while and helped me tremendously. I struggle the most with this section. My only word of advice against this section is not to skim, because if you have any difficulties with attention, you will need to just pace yourself and read. Jot on the pieces of blank paper they give you the main idea of each paragraph and things like that. Just watch your time. I ran close on mine.

Now, science....Honestly, the science frustrates me in that a lot of the "correct" answers are against what I have been taught in my classes which is crazy because I have made high A's in all of my sciences. Unfortunately, the best way to improving this area is to remember your questions that troubled you, and try to revise them before the next time you take the exam. They will be the same so that is the only way to really grow in that section. There were many questions that were immediately obvious but for those I wasn't sure about, I took the time I needed to remember them and do my research to make sure I chose the best answers the next time around. It worked out well so I would definitely advise you to try to remember your questions. Just don't write them down or spread information to others because then you are most likely gonna be accused of cheating. You can always look into the things you remember seeing on an exam, but writing them down or discussing them with others is a sure fire way to get kicked out of school. I hope this helps!

I had the same thing happen to me, I was curious, when you say you used the book The Scoot, Foresman Handbook for Writers and said you used it for mechanics, what does that define? I ordered the book to improve my score in that section and wasn't sure what sections of the book would help benefit me most. Thanks

Sorry im so late answering. Mechanics involves proper punctuation, fragments, comma splices, run ons, semicolons and colons, quotations, ellipses, parentheses and brackets, dashes,hyphens, slashes, italices, capitalization, abbreviation and numbers. If you use that exact book (9th ed) you will come to all these in part 6, beginning in ch 34.

Depending on the school you go to youight get multiple attempts per application year. My school and one other in my state (but recently changed test to teas) allowed 2 attempts each application year. You just had to wait at least 30 days before taking it again and they expired after 12 months.
