Has anyone questioned becoming a nurse?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Ok so this is the thing I have worked as a CMA in the medical field so familiar on how it can be. So I went to the doctors with my husband today his appointment and all the MAs and nurses looked miserable! I mean pissed off looking, not friendly no smile no nothing! This is not the first doctors office I came into and see this, not sure if it's where I live which is a small town. The MAs looked snobby and the nurses as well including one of the secretaries. Lol omg how I have forgotten how it is to work in a clinic, I remember coming across coworkers just like them and that's one of the reasons it made my job so unpleasant! I'm very outgoing always smile and ask ppl how they are doing specially when I was the CMA I was extra nice to my patients. Ugh this just brings me back to thinking will it be like this in every medical field job u come across even as an RN? Or is it deferent? I swear my experience as a CMA wasn't all that great that at one point I thought about not perusing my RN cuz I thought it would always be this way and still question this.. I quit cuz I plan to start nursing school, but going into the clinic today just gave me flash backs of being around snobby ppl in a clinic I wonder if it's like this everywhere or just my small town lol. Anyone works or has worked with snobby Nurses or CMAs? I got the impression like they feel superior and don't ask me noting attitude. Even the Nurse practitioner I would assist in my previous job came off snobby and bossy like ( I'm above you attitude) which she was, but still always felt belittled not going to lie one of the reasons I want to peruse my RN so I won't be looked at that way. I love the medical field and enjoyed patient interactions don't see me working in any other field but question if I'm a keep coming across these type of negative ppl within the clinic work areas.

Anyone had similar experiences?

I too went the extra mile to be nice, my patients were alway surprise how happy I was and said it made them happy to see my face. I alway told them I like to send positive vibes to make everyone happy. I remember one of my patient I met me for the first time and was mean to me at first but was nice to me once she saw my personality she said, "you're not like the others". I have been where you are questioning if I want to go to nursing school but in the end of the day the hospital needs positive people like us because to me smiling is contagious you send good vibes and makes those around you want to smile. You can do this :-)!

I'm not a nurse (yet! Just got accepted to nursing school though!) but I've been hospitalized a few times and went through a pregnancy, which involved a lot of contact with the nurses at my doctor's office. Most nurses I've run into as a patient have been great, very upbeat and positive. They are my inspiration... I want to be like them! The negative nurses I have dealt with, I always just figured they were having a bad day and didn't take it personally. That said, I ran into exactly zero of these attitudes as a part of my job- I was a patient and on the receiving end of care, so it's possible the happy side I saw with my nurses wasn't what they showed to their co-workers. I do tend to have a positive, bubbly demeanor and I hope that I can leverage that to put my future patients at ease. I'm currently a paralegal and my clients always say that they think I'm so nice, even when they're yelling and mean (legal troubles tend to bring out the worst in people) and I have always gotten apologies after a client went off haha! So, I hope I can transfer that attitude successfully to the healthcare environment :)

I think people are people and you see them on good days and bad days and not every day is going to be happy and chirpy and gleeful! And they aren't always going to be sour and cranky either. Because nurses are so visible, there they are whenever you turn around, they are more In Your Face than people who work other jobs. Bet you can find the same Cranky/Crabby Happy/Chirpy people in the lab, in radiology, at the dry-cleaners and at the movie theatre! People are people :-)

Yes I understand people are people but let me correct you on that, when I was working in the medical field even on my bad day, cranky days I never showed it towards my patients, it's like you should know what you are getting yourself into when you get into the medical field. But then yet I just don't understand and will never understand those unhappy nurse/nurse practitioner/ MAs cuz I was never one of them. It's just dreadful having to work with those type of ppl one of the other reasons I quit my job. I just want to know if it's better once you're a nurse cuz I was belittled at my previous CMA job

And also I live in such a small town that some girls in this area just act like they have a stick up there lol ugh! They think just cuz of their title RN or NP they can act and belittle a CMA. Even once I move up with my RN I'm a make sure I'm not one of those nurses ( don't forget where you came from and from where you started)

Yes I totally agree with you, I'm one of those ppl that have a smile on my face or at least try to specially when I was at work I was so friendly! I just don't get how some ppl become nurse/Nps/MAs and are complete snobs! I hated going to work cuz of the ppl I worked with, the ppl that would make my day are those nice good energy patients other than that it was dreadful I had to get out of there. Also don't know if it's like that everywhere but it was full of gossip, even the NP would sit ther and talk smack about the patients when they would leave, very unprofessional!

Congrats on you acceptance! Hope to start in August LPN. I was also hospitalized 2months ago I had surgery and let me tell you I came across only one nice nurse yes one!! Very sad, at the time I was dealing with a lot obviously surgery pain after surgery, one of the nurses got mad cuz we paged them to help me up to the bathroom, she told my husband you cannot be pressing the page button, I responded I told him to page since he was at arms reach. My husband was wanting to help me up but to be honest I thought it would be safer to let the nurse help me since they are trained for that. Well she got mad. And the way she helped me up was not in any way trained the CNA did a better job and from then on just had my husband help me. Also they did not check on me what so ever only once every 6hrs I had to page them every time I needed them and they seemed bothered from it. I was so glad to come home and recover since they weren't any help anyways, I asked to come home by the second day and thank god I did!

Every hospital is going to be different. I did clinical at one hospital where the nurses were rude to students. I then had clinical at a hospital that was well known to have a great work environment and friendly nurses. Hopefully you can do clinical rotations at multiple hospitals so you can get a sense of how the hospital/staff is.

I hope so! I've had bad experiences with nurses in my town sure that's everywhere but really just thinking its my town lol. This is one of the reasons I have questioned becoming a RN cuz of the way I been treated in my past jobs and the way I been treated under care after surgery and at clinics. I hate negative ppl and to be honest I think some become nurses for the pay sad to see, yes it's a plus but damn you're taking care of patients let the negativity and drama go. I say drama cuz I dealt with it had to hear gossip 24/7. Hope being a nurse is deferent where you're to busy to be involved in work drama!

Is there a faith base hospital near you because that is where I have seen the most nicest nurses and they go above and beyond and one prayed with me once, when I was having complication after my pregnancy....Compared to the state hospital.
