Graduating with my BS this Spring

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all,

So I'm graduating from UCLA this coming Spring with my BS. Im interested in going into nursing and have looked at various ASBSN programs around Cali. I just had a couple question for people who have been in this position or who have any advice. Im going to be taking a year off to work full time and finish some prereqs but was wondering what a good job would be in the health world that i could at least be in the nursing/health environment and maybe gain a little experience in. Also, I feel like a lot of people going into nursing schools are a little older. Is it ok to start now when im 22? with virtually no health experience? and ive heard a lot of ASBSN vs ELMSN programs. Some people say just to get your masters, but i kinda thought it would be better to get my BSN and work for awhile before going back to get an MSN. Any thoughts? Advice?

I would have taken the 2nd degree to MSN route if there were any available closer to me in AZ (the closest I found were in NV, San Diego, and NM all about 500m away). I didn't have the option of moving due to my youngest in 10th grade and getting straight As (I really don't want to foul that up!).

The MSN direct programs I found wanted you to pass the NCLEX after the 2nd (I think) year and then allowed (actually sounded like they wanted) you to work while completing the MSN part.

I am waiting to find out if I made the UA Tuscon ABSN program right now... tick, tick, tick...

Good luck,

Mark
