Getting into nursing school.

Hi guys, how are you?

I am 26 years old and I would like to join a nursing school. But I'm not quite sure if I can.. All I have is my GED. Would I be able to study nursing with just a GED? If I can, what schools accept just that?

You'll need to figure out which nursing school you'd like to attend. Then you need to look into what they require - most schools require prerequisites like English, Algebra, Chemistry, etc. On average it takes about two years to complete these, and it's much cheaper if you do them through a community college.

Different schools have different programs though, so I'd suggest looking into schools around you - their acceptance rate, their NCLEX pass rate, their accreditation, etc.

Many of the private LVN/LPN programs at trade schools will enroll applicants with only a GED as long as you can pass a basic entrance exam. Once you earn your LPN license, you are eligible to enroll in LPN-to-RN bridge programs.

I know of two Chief Nursing Officers (one PhD & one MSN) who both started their academic journey with GEDs. Anything is possible. Contact the schools in which you're interested. They can provide information & guidance that is much more accurate than ours.
