funding school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey

So I am going to be starting nursing school in the Fall and I couldn't be more excited and scared. Scared mostly because I don't know how I'm going to afford it! I am applying for grant and scholarship I see. And also planning on loans as well. (I won't be able to get financial aid because I have a Bachelors degree already)

But I'm trying to be creative as well, so I was wondering, how are you guys paying/planning to pay for school? What ways are you trying to be creative?

(I have even seen some kickstarters/gofundme things for tuition lol)

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Cut your expenses down as much as humanly possible. If you can move to a cheaper place, do it. Work part time if possible (ideally as a CNA!).

I'm a veteran, so I was able to get my tuition and such paid through a VA program. I don't know how else we would have done it!

Specializes in ICU.

Mine is being paid for by my ex husband. In the state I live in, because he had me quit school when we got married he has to pay for my education now that I am going back to school to better myself. I just budget my money well because I don't work and have to live off of my divorce settlement money. Certain things go out the window and I only get necessities. I just don't shop as much as I used to. Which is kinda hard for me, a shopaholic. Lol. You just have to decide how much you want it.

Specializes in LDRP.

You should still be able to get loans even though you have a bachelor's degree! If anything I'd think you might not be eligible for certain grants. I'll be in the same boat soon enough! If you're working now, definitely start pinching pennies if you haven't already. Gotta make it work somehow, right? :)

Mine is loans and Pell Grant. Once I enter nursing school, my financial aid/loans get reset to Freshman status. It's going to cost me 15k to complete my ADN.

As far as living expenses, I was denied because I am already receiving the maximum amount in loans for the year. My fiance's father has been grateful enough to help us out. We are also planning on part-time jobs that revolve around our schedules.

thanks for all the responses :)

- yes i am planning on loans, applying to every scholarship i see

- i have cut down all my expenses, plus i live with my parents, i work part time and only make enough to help pay my side of the bills

- cant work as a CNA, dont i need to get certified for that? i dont think i have time to go through that training since classes are in 3 months

- dont have an ex husband to fund me, unfortunately, lol :p but good for you for going back!!! :)

i am trying to think outside the box and see what other options might be out there and find some creative solutions to help me along the way :)
