Failing Anatomy!

  1. I am currently in my first semester of Practical Nursing and am failing Anatomy class! I am worried they will let me go if I for sure fail this class. I am so discouraged, I worked so hard to get into this program but this anatomy is killing me! I am doing well on all the other classes. Any advice?

It's all memorization. I can relate because I suck at memorizing material. Figure out what works best for you. Are you visual? Watch you tube videos. Does writing help? Find anatomy charts and fillin the blanks. Buy an anatomy coloring book. Is there open lab time where you can go in and go over models. Preferably the same models you will be tested on.

Yeah, I am visual actually! Wish I could just listen to the lectures but I need to see it also, which makes it hard when I am trying to multitask at the same time! lol
I talked to my instructor and she said I will have to do very well on the final exam in order to pass! But what if I don't pass? I guess I have to retake the whole course all over again? I hope they won't make me do everything over again. So stressful! I know they let students go if they feel they aren't compatible for the program. Guess I need to take this one day at a time. If I overthink this too much I will make myself crazy! ahhhh lol

How do you currently study? I feel like this is something important to identify in order to help give you the best advice. For example, do you review your lecture material within 24 hours or do you wait until closer to your exam date? Are PowerPoints provided or do you have to take your own notes? Do you preview the material before coming to class? Do you use a study group? Are you struggling with lab, lecture, or both? Do you look over your old exams? Do you have a tutor? How often do you go to your professor's office hours? The list can go on!

Like Cat365 mentioned, Youtube videos may help you since you are a visual learner. I believe you may be able to find actual lectures to watch. You can pause and replay them as many times as needed in order to help cut down on multitasking. I think it is important to use a combination of hearing, seeing, and writing. I even try to chew a gum at the same time to stimulate as many senses as possible.

Try to break down what you are doing now or not doing now that may be holding you back from being the best student you can be. If you do pass, make sure to relearn this material so you have a solid foundation to build on.

If you need help with anatomy go to Professor Fink's YouTube channel and watch his anatomy lecture and anatomy lab playlists. I recommend Professor Fink to everyone because he is the reason I breezed through both A&P I and II with A's. Good Luck on the final !

Thanks for all your great advice! I will take it! I do a little of all of those things! Just need to figure out time management and study skills! (I have 3 kids, ages 4, 10 and 14)! lol

Ok so what I found helped me (at the very end) was looking at the objectives of the units in a chapter; writing them down and answering them. It's very much like your reading the entire thing but not over and over wasting time and not being able to finish the chapter; much like what i typically did. (this gives you more time to practice study as well!) hope you passed!

Anatomy is a beast. I am taking 2nd part before I start clinicals. I can't imagine trying to take at same time. My program requires AP1 with B or better before you even apply. Micro and AP2 can be taken during program however I decided to take them prior (next semster) so I'll be ready for fall clinical portion. Good luck!!
