Dilemma, Advice on NY Programs Please!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

For a while now i've been looking into different nursing programs, I cant decide what would be the ideal option. I live in Rockland County, NY and I'm looking into any and all nursing programs that I can go into WITHOUT taking the science pre-req's first.

Here's a little background first. I just graduated with a b.a. in psychology, went to grad school for a program and absolutly hated it. Thus prompting my decision to do what I really want, and not what someone else wants. Eventually I want to be a CRNA, but I know I need a BSN and at least 1 year of working in ICU before I can even apply to the program.

Today I tried to pick up some of the pre-reqs needed for most programs at a local college but they were all closed, no sliding in at all. Does anyone know of any programs where you do not need pre-req's first? Im looking for the best, most affordable option available to me. If it means I need to take out loans, then I will but I don't want to have to wait another year before I can even start to prepare for a decent nursing program.

Any help and advice is really appreciated! :o

Specializes in Operating Room.

Do you have all the non-science courses already? Maybe you could take some of those this semester?

Try looking at programs that allow you to bridge over from one b.a. to a bsn.

I'm not in NY, but good luck to you! :)

yes, I have everything else except those sciences and there isn't any way I know of for me to take them this semester. I'm even willing to commute to the city to take them but I'm not sure if any other schools have them open.

did you try the SUNY schools? some have been even known to offer concentrated courses(chemistry) over the winter break, at least upstate ny they do.

Specializes in ER.

If you are the self-motivated type, you can try using CLEP, Dantes, and Excelsior College exams to get the needed classes.

CLEP is through the College Board at www.collegeboard.org.

Dantes is now on its own (was College Board) at www.getcollegecredt.com.

And Excelsior College is at www.excelsior.edu.

Good luck!
