Don't put that in your nose!!
Son#3, then 4 years old, also put a Lego up his nose, trip to Dr to remove it, even sneezing wouldn't blast it out. Few months later, he smashed once of those plastic bubbles that you get junk in from a gumball machine, and shoved a shard of that in his ear. took a trip to the ER to get that thing out.

OBOY!....did I date myself today!!!!!
We had to replace the mortar-pestle, also the screw down type and use silent knight with the baggies, joint commission said that those devices could cause allergic rxn, even if well cleaned, also had to get rid of the 100cc bag of saline we used for flushes on the unit, replaced those with pre-filled, same for the heparin flush vials- said it was an infection control issue.

she tried to access mediport, it was really a pacer
All's I know was the guy was "pretty out of it." she said he had a high ammonia level, and needed iv fluids (sounds like he might have been a new admit, to me) that's about all I know.

she tried to access mediport, it was really a pacer
the first thing the other nurse (the smart nurse) did was check the chart for an order, of course there wasn't one. I guess the guy just had an order for iv fluids and stupid nurse just started poking away. .

she tried to access mediport, it was really a pacer
nurse at work told me this horror story today,( she works per diem at another facility), was working this weekend in acute care, was called off the floor to try to access a mediport, after this other nurse tried 3 times. on arrival, she finds it wasn't a mediport at all, but a pacemaker. this other nurse had poked it with the huber 3 times, the guy was bleeding all over, apparently in critical care now. this guy never even had a mediport. Can you believe tis incompetence??!!

You're going to Community College?
I got my degree at state university, most of my peers went to cc, a few went to hosp school of nursing. We all make the same amt of money, in fact, most hosp in my area give a bsn $100 more PER YEAR, hardly a wise investment of thousands of dollars and 2 extra years of college.

What has happened to simple, basic care???
I've noticed that the nursing students (RN) are not performing any hygiene, personal care or asst with mobility during clinical, their instructors will have them call for the cna or co-assigned nurse to do any sort of care. They say "that's not what they're here for. They already know how to give a bath." The LPN students will give excellent care, however. Will do or help with anything. (note,I am an lpn to rn) When I was a student, our instructor (older woman, very old school) said as nurses, our essential duty to our pts was as follow: 1. keep them clean 2. keep them comfortable 3. keep them moving 4. keep them nourished Maybe it seems oudated or old fashioned, but I think it still holds true.

Where do you buy your scrubs?
Marcus uniforms has great online specials. My favorite place for scrubs. Tafford is good, too. check their online specials and outlet link. Uniform Advantage, cute prints, but order size larger than usual, their cut is small.

"What do you need Christmas off for? You don't have kids!" (rant)
after 12 years I wised up and took an insurance co job, (flex time) I enjoyed my 3 day weekend last weekend, and will enjoy another this weekend, and in 2 more weeks it's MLK holiday, so there's another. No more missed Football games or school events. Now they've given all us nurses laptops, so we can work from home if we want to!!
