Confused On which Rn pathI should take

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello Everyone, I am currently a college student at Oklahoma State University and I am very confused about the BSN, ADN, etc. I will be graduating in a year with a Bachelors in Human Development and Family Science and I will have all my pre-reqs for nursing school. My question is do I apply for nursing school after I graduate and I'll automatically be in a bsn program since I already obtained a bachelors degree at a university? I'm sorry this question is so confusing. Can someone explain to me a path I could take since my major is HDFS and I finished all my pre-reqs?

You can do one of a few things:

1) Apply to nursing school now and get a bachelor's in nursing instead of your originally planned bachelor's.

2) Finish current bachelor's program and then apply to nursing school, choosing between an associates in nursing or getting a second bachelor's degree, this time in nursing. Financing these degrees may be difficult.

3) Finish current bachelor's program and look for a nursing program designed for second degree students such as an acclerated bachelor's in nursing or a master's for direct entry to nursing. Again, financing a second bachelor's may be difficult.

I agree! I had a Bachelor's degree in Human Physiology from an university before I decided to go to nursing school. (I also took a year off in between) I had a friend getting her NP at the time I was deciding on which path to take. I decided on an ADN program because I wanted to hit the floor fast. A lot of the courses from my Bachelor's transferred to the ADN program (but you should check with the schools to which you plan to apply). Once I decided I wanted to be an educator, I was able to use my ADN + BS (avoiding another Bachelor's) to get a MSN.

It more or less depends on your finances, if you want to spend more time in school vs in the field, and your end goals. Hopefully, this info helps!
