CNA a requirement for RN program in NC?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I feel hopeless, being a nurse is my dream -for now.

Here;s my situation. I'm a cna 1 - when i took the exam I didn't have much money so I took a prep class and studied for 4 months and passed. I didn't do clinicals, we have little set ups in the class and did it that way.

A week ago, I just paid $700 for CNA 2- which is advance CNA skills sort of like PCA/PCT.

Well, I went to apply at both schools for Rn, they told me. I needed to retake cna 1, which is $600 for 4 months to get into RN program because I didn't have clinical hours for my CNA 1. I'm however on the registry and have been working as a CNA for $almost two years. I just thought I was finally there and now this happens. I mean I'm not made of money. How am I to retake a cna class? Any help or if someone have been through any of this please let me know! thanks

talk to whoever grants the CNA certificates (Health Dept?). See if they will give you credit for working in lieu of clinical hours. Talk to BON to see if this CNA step is absolutely necessary to be an RN

That's ridiculous. You need a license, yes, but you shouldn't need hours. I went to nursing school up there and CNA hours were definitely not a requirement for my program!

Most of the schools now are requiring you take a State course which has the clinical hours. I would think though, if you have been licensed for a while and WORKING, that this shouldn't matter (since you are working in the field!) - I would talk directly to the admissions department and get some clarification. Good luck.

Hi everyone, I called NC BON and they told me the only requirement is that you're on the registry as a CNA 1. But they can't control what the colleges requirements are. So far all of the colleges say I have to re-do the CNA 1 through a clinical program and won't accept my CNA 2 clinicals.
