Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Has anyone attended this school for nursing? I have looked into it a little, but want opinions and experiences.

I looked into it when I first started nursing as well. My Dad actually has a lot of connections in the health care world because of sales, and I was able to talk to some important people (Director of a spinal center, for instance). I was told that Brown Mackie is a BIG no no. You will have a very difficult time finding a desirable job.

Additionally, when I toured Mackie (3 or 4 years ago now), they could not tell me anything about their accreditation or NCLEX pass rates. It was a very superficial meeting. They required their students to buy iPads to download their books--books that they actually admitted would disappear off of the device after a time.

They also have a hard time securing clinical sites, and it is not uncommon for students to travel 100 miles one way for a clinical day.

Basically, it's a gamble.

Can I ask why you're considering Brown Mackie? I checked them out at first because I liked that they admitted new students every couple of months and I wanted to start my nursing journey RIGHT then and there because I was excited. They seem appealing at first.

Stick around this site. You'll come across some valuable information. Don't make school decisions until you've thoroughly researched every option.

Good luck to you.

I was considering it also for getting in sooner, but I also think I did much better with my last program that had the pre req type stuff mixed in the program. Yeah I was told they are accredited with the board of Kansas? Not sure if that means you can only work in Kansas maybe?

Specializes in Assistant Professor, Nephrology, Internal Medicine.

I've heard terrible things about them when I worked in Arizona. Very few of their graduates were passing the boards.

My hospital won't hire Brown Mackie students and they do not let them do clinicals at the hospital either.
