Becoming a nurse

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I was in the nursing program in 1999 at the University of South Carolina. Prior to transferring to USC I received my Associate in Science from University of South Carolina Salkehatchie. While at USC Columbia I had to retake one class in lower division and one in upper division. I appealed but was dismissed from their

program. It is 19 years later. My desire is to be a nurse and care for people. Do I have the option of enrolling at a different college or university? I am willing to start completely over. Is this a option? Please point me in the right direction. I have worked in the medical field for the past 18 years as a unit clerk and then a cardiac monitor tech. All information to help me reach my goal will be greatly appreciated.

I would think you would need to retake most of your courses since it has been so long - which you seem OK with.

I would contact all the schools in your area that offer a program and find out the requirements, application process, etc. I would let them know your situation, and see what they say - every school has different requirements.

Good luck!

Most science prerequisites expire after 5-10 years, so you might have to retake some classes. Just check with the schools you're looking into!
