Applying to nursing schools

Hello everyone,

I live in Portland ME and I am looking into the field of nursing. After spending two years of college changing my major I found that I loved the field and want to be in it. My fear is that because of my academic past dropping too many classes and retaking a few I won't be able to get into any nursing programs my gpa is at a 3.0 which is the requirement what is any advice anyone can give me in terms of being able to get into the BSN program.

I taught in a BSN program for ten years where the minimum GPA was 3.0. However many semesters all 48 accepted had 3.5 and higher GPA. And there is no waiting list. Applicants compete each semester so those with 3.0 never get in as long as the competition has higher GPAs. Current faculty tell me that those getting in now have 3.7 and higher. The receptionist at the clinic I work at had 3.95 gpa. She just finished second semester.

I agree with the previous posters, get A's in your pre-req's and that will improve your stock a bunch. I would also look into volunteering opportunities in healthcare or working as a PCA. Since you're 2 years into your college career it also might be worth it to finish the degree you're going for and then apply to an accelerated BSN programs.

It depends on the average accepted applicant's GPA. Ask the schools you're interested in what that is and then you'll know where you need to be.
