Advice on LVN-bridge or ADN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

OK, so I have applied to 2 ADN programs for Fall of 2014. There are more programs in my area but I missed the application deadline to some because it came earlier than I was ready...anyways I am so nervous and worried and so ready to get down the road on this mission. So my question is....should I apply to some LVN programs for Fall 2014 also as a backup so I can be moving towards RN (I would go straight through a bridge program after my LVN)...or should I retake the B on my transcript (It's A&P I) this fall (or summer) & take the other entrance exams and reapply to ALL the ADN programs close to me (there's about 5) for spring 2015. I'm the kind of person that HAS to have a plan B & I feel like I don't have one right now, plus I'm a 'nontraditional' student (aka-old!) so I feel time isn't on my side either. What are your thoughts on the LVN then bridge route? My goal is BSN. But with all the bridge programs it can be done starting with LVN within probably the same time frame & I could be working in the meantime as well. I have all my prereqs & coreqs done already too. (for ADN & BSN)

Where are you located? I did the lvn route first. I have worked for 1 year enjoyed my money. But now I'm starting my last few pre reqs to be able to apply for the lvn-adn program. Majority of schools in my area are by lottery not sure how it is where you applied. If you do decide to do lvn first just remember a lot of people get comfortable with an lvn title and then woah a year passes by. I am glad I took the lvn route personally because I was able to work for this past year and spoil myself a bit and pay off all my credit card debt. But I am so ready to go back to get my rn.

I am near the Dallas area, I'm not real sure how the lvn market is around here except in long-term care but that's find with me for now. I have been I school full time finishing my pre-reqs but the not working is wearing on me too. I applied to a few ADN programs for this fall but there a some good lvn programs here too @ the community colleges. I think you make some excellent points and will take that route if I don't get into an ADN program this fall. The schools around here follow a points system mostly, I'm not even sure what a lottery system means! Everyone I know who went the lvn route did exactly what you said & got comfortable with it. How did you work you schedule to work & go to school?
