Advice for amping up my resume in the future

I am a prenursing student currently and I keep hearing on here about how hard it is for new grads to get jobs in nursing. I am going for my ADN because I just can't afford to do a BSN right now as much as I would like to. So my question is, what sorts of things can I do to make my resume stand out all the more when I finish school. I just sent in my application to start volunteering at the local hospital but I would appreciate any advice about types of volunteering, additional classes that I could take, or anything else that you think would help me be more competative when I finish school. EMT or CNA classes would look good. If i'm not mistaken a lot of nursing jobs require EMT-Basic at a minimum. From what I've looked on websites to get an idea of what I need to do.

hey! i've always thought about taking emt classes. They are at community colleges right? I wish I would've done this 2 summers ago instead of trying to find myself. :rolleyes: lol But YES the volunteer experience is GREAT for a resume! I've been doing it since my 11th grade year in high school.

What about a foreign language? I speak a little Spanish but if I polish that up to the point where I can converse with a patient in Spanish, would that help me sell myself?

Spanish would really only help if you know enough Spanish to meet a facilities requirements for working as an interpreter on your unit. My facility allows nurses who know foreign languages to take a test, and if they pass, a pay raise.

I would recommend getting a job as a CNA/PCT, in a hospital if possible. EMT would also be a great idea.

i also saw a scholarship for a bilingual nurse student last week so yes that would be a great boost
