Advice: A&P I and Entrance

Hi all:

First time poster and long time lurker on many of the boards here at AN. I am in my second career at 35 years old with a 9 month pregnant wife (I'm male) after seven years of marriage. My goals are to be an eventual APRN (hopefully)!

I am currently a Mid-Sophomore here in Florida, and currently hold a 3.7 GPA at my institution. In my nursing core classes (i.e. Microbiology, Sociology, etc) I currently have a 3.8 cumulative -- this is from four full-time semesters.

This Summer, I am taking a few classes including my first A&P class (BSC-1085/1085L for those in Florida and keeping score).

My issue is this:

I currently have a 93% percent in lecture after three tests covering eight chapters in our textbook. However, my lab professor has missed every single class besides the first two. He doesn't post grades (so I have no clue how I am doing in the class) and has made multiple promises as to posting lecture slides, posting grades, providing word banks for tests, etc. He does not lecture. Not to mention our lecture classes (BSC-1085) do not correspond to our lab topics (BSC-1085L). This is a compressed course over the summer that starts at 6:00pm and lasts until 9:30pm.

After our class session tonight, needless to say most of the class is done with his B.S. and about to go to the Dean. My worries is that I have no clue how I have done on the two tests we have done so far in the class and the Withdrawal date is coming up soon. I do know that most of my class feels that we have done poorly and the teacher is a total flake.

There are five total tests in the Lab portion. What is everyone's opinion? Do I stick it out in this lab class and hope for the best? If I withdraw from lab I must withdraw from lecture. This puts me behind schedule for applying to the nursing program. If anything should go wrong in the Lab class it also has the potential to mess up my GPA and prohibit me from applying to the Nursing program in the Fall (after all that work!).

Have you tried talking to your teacher? I have had problems with professors before, and most of my problems were able to be fixed by going in and talking to them during office hours, or emailing them. I know what it is like to not get grades back! He would never grade things. I would kindly remind him to grade my test first in a 'joking' manor. Honestly I nagged him, and asked him several times a week to grade my stuff, it worked! It is just important to remember to plaster a smile on your face, and make sure you are still friendly about asking for your grades. Because nothing is worse than a teacher who hates you (no matter how much you may hate him).

It's a shame that there are people in the teaching profession who do these things. I hope they get fired.
