About to take the TEAS Exam????????

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello........I've been away for awhile, but glad to be back! I received my letter to take the TEAS Test (Test of Essential Academic Skills). Has anyone taken this exam? I'm wondering how much this test counts for when deciding who will be in the next nursing class? I purchased a study guide, but am curious if the test will be set up the same way. Any help would be greatly appreciated .........thank you

Definitely get the practice exams that ATI sells. You can only buy two, but they are a huge help. My first step was to take one and see where I needed to focus. Then I went through the entire study guide thoroughly one time and then went through the areas where I struggled again. I used the practice questions in the study guide, then went through everything one more time. Then I took the second test. I paid attention to the questions that I missed (the test tells you as you go if you get it right/wrong, and gives explanations for each answer choice) and the specific material they covered (for example, I missed a question in science about the properties of water so I found more detailed information than what was in the study guide about that specific topic). Then I took both of the practice exams one more time.

The math, reading, and English/language arts sections were pretty much exactly what the study guide covered. No surprises there. The science section however was much more detailed than what the study guide covered. I had recently taken anatomy, physiology, and microbiology which really helped. But I hadn't had chemistry or earth/physical science since high school in the late 90s so I needed extra preparation with those sections. I found a great resource that REALLY saved me. I used Cliffs Notes website (and bought the Chemistry book). It really explained some of the concepts and offered more (free!) practice questions. There was a lot about chemical bonding and the study guide only lightly touched on the basics of covalent, ionic, and polar bonds. Properties of element, electron configurations etc. Cliffs Notes offered great resources for those topics!

The end result was that I scored an overall 96%, which put me in the 99th percentile for all BSN applicants.

Good luck and hope that helps!

Please does anybody want to study for teas test am taking mine in cal state Los Angeles on October.
