A&p 1 ?

Has anyone taken a class "Principles of the Human Body" or something like prior to A&P 1? It is not a prereq. for A&P 1, but strongly encouraged. I was also thinking of taking medical terminology for the extra learning. Thanks!

At my cc "Intro to Allied Health" is a pre-req for API&II. I'm taking it now. This is basically an overview of science for the non-science student - basic overview of chemistry, physical science, biochem, DNA, and micro, in addition to teaching you how to study for the sciences. This class is designed to prepare you for AP and over the years they have tweaked it so there is a direct correlation between how well you do in this class and the grade you will get with the same effort in AP I.

Our instructor is pure :devil: with the trick questions and the learning curve is huge, but I'm learning tons and hope I'll go on to do well in AP.

The more you are exposed to, the better you are likely to do when you get to the "big" A&P. The vocational school that I taught at had an A&P class that was a combo A&P and medical terminology class. It was a much easier version of college A&P and the person teaching it was very popular because she also would talk about the various things that would go wrong with the body parts. I've got to say that the textbook they used had a lot better pictures than some of the college A&P texts I've seen. However, it did lack the finite detail that you are going to get with college level A&P.

It is a fact that we learn more effectively when the facts are repeated and repeated at intervals with time sandwiched between them. Has something to do with the brain and memory. If you have the time to do an introductory survey of the human body class, go ahead and do it. Can't hurt you. You will find, however, that the A&P you'll need to take for nursing is much more detailed and complex in content.

Medical Terminology is encouraged at our school but it is not a prerequisite. I would also recommend to take your Chem classes before taking A&P ;)
