I've never posted here before but I am going to be applying to Yale School of Nursing this fall for a 2015 start in the GEPN program, CNM/WHNP cohort. Wondering if there are others out there preparing to do the same? I'm heading down to their info session next week.
This question seems hard:
3. What is your understanding of the role of the advanced practice nurse? Please describe observations or work experiences you have had with health care professionals, issues related to health (health systems issues, illness, or crisis situation) and specifically (if applicable) with advanced practice nurses. When considering your interactions with health care professionals please reflect on shadowing or volunteer experiences, as well as any professional clinical or research experiences. How have these experiences influenced your decision to apply to a graduate nursing program?
... @_@ I haven't had too many work experiences talking about issues related to health stuff so I don't know how to go about this...
Any advice?
- Interview (great)
- Online Blogs (not so great, but useful)
- Volunteer in a healthcare related field
- Etcetera
People like to help others. And, healthcare personal LOVE to help others. Consequently, you can stop by at a hospital and interview. If you can shadow this is even greater and can be included in the essay.
My work experiences do not correlate perfectly also, but making an effort to understand the professions shows understanding to admissions (in my opinion).
Did everyone receive this email today?
"With the GEPN application deadline looming, I wanted to bring a potential curriculum redesign to your attention. Our administration and faculty are currently working on this redesign that would impact our Master of Science in Nursing program. The aim of the redesign is to maximize efficiency, while maintaining a high quality of teaching and learning, as well as continue the seamless transition from GEPN coursework to that of the specialty program. The redesign will likely shorten the amount of time our students will actually spend in the program. For instance, the GEPN program will potentially go from three full-time academic years, to two full-time calendar years. The impending change will not impact the GEPN year for 2015-16, but would affect the specialty years for next year's entering GEPN students."
So does that mean they would be reducing the specialty years? Very interesting. I wonder what's prompting them to do that.
Hey lsubiochem15,
I'm also a senior but studying Health Science at BU. I've volunteered at a few hospitals and have done internships at hospitals at well. Yale and Columbia are my top choices. I really hope to get into the Family NP Program.
How is everyone doing with their apps? Nov. 1 deadline is coming up soon!

I'm pretty upset that the recommenders have not received the notifications for the letters of recommendation yet... I even had the system notify them multiple times. Does anyone else have this problem? I talked with my recommenders and they said that they don't have the email yet. Eh...
All of my recommendation providers received the letter of recommendation requests. Further, the Yale essay questions are listed within the application portal. The application does not have to be completed in one sitting. I understand that Yale is a great school after researching. Application submitted. Have a good Columbus Day weekend
