USF CA MSN-CNL Non-nurse Summer 2011

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi There,

I've been searching around and I haven't seen a thread yet for USF's CNL program for non-nurse Summer 2011, so I thought I'd start one.

Anyone out there applied yet or still applying? I just submitted my online application last night and am preparing the supplemental packet to send out tomorrow.

Anything you'd like to share, by all means, please do!

Thanks,

KTZ

I know, time will probably pass slow. Blsulliv- it was ucla's thread : )

I'm considering applying to this program but haven't attended an info session since I live in LA. I'm considering flying up for the one in April. Would love to hear others impression of the program. Ideally, I would like to stay in Southern Cal.

I am in a similar situation. I grew up in LA and moved to nor cal for college, and would love to stay up here if possible for grad school. I have already been accepted to USD and am planning on moving back to southern California if I don't get into USF...

I went to an open house at USF about a year and half ago when I first decided to apply to nursing school and ever since USF has been on the top of my list. I have heard nothing but good things about the program (except that it is pretty expensive), and it really seems as if the university cares about the nursing students it produces. I think that you should come up for the open house if possible and that way you can really get a good feel for the school and San Francisco. I wasn't really considering San Diego until I went to the open house at USD, so I definitely think its a good idea to consider all your options. Where else did you apply in the LA area? I also applied to UCLA (didn't get in) and CSUF...

Anyone want to share stats?

I have a 2.0 from my first 2 years of college :(

a 4.0 from my second two years (different school - so 4.0 was my graduating GPA, but not my cumulative)

and a 4.0 in my prerequisites.

I've been volunteering at John Muir in Walnut Creek for the nurse manager of the birth center, basically as an administrative assistant, so not much patient contact, but she is a USF graduate and wrote one of my recommendation letters, so maybe that'll count for something?

I sent 3 letters of rec. in but I got to read the one my boss from work sent in and it was kind of weak, nothing bad, but not much detail either. She typed it out but didn't print it on letterhead, didn't sign the letter, or indent her paragraphs...I was pretty disappointed and frustrated to say the least (am I ungrateful, or are these reasonable things to expect?).

Anyhow, would love to hear what the rest of your stats are, and GOOD luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have decided to attend the info session in April. I only applied to UCLA (bad decision to only apply to one school), so now I am in crazy position of trying to finish Microbiology, study for the GRE, and take an online nutrition class while working a full-time job and dealing with a family. Ugh! I really want to be in enrolled in a program by Fall or Spring 2012. Some other schools are requesting GRE which if I do well, will benefit me since my undergrad GPA was low. Did you take the GRE?

I took the GRE last September because I wanted to apply to USD and SF State. You seem like you have a lot going on, I can't imagine doing all that and applications! When I was considering staying inLA I looked into the program at Western University but didn't end up applying... i sure thatt all your hard work will pay off in the end. Goodluck on the GRE, and I hope you enjoy visiting USF!

It's alot to do but I figure, I can do anything for a few months. I hired a tutor to help with the GRE. Luckily, I have my on office so during down times I can study. (hope my boss isn't on here..hehehe). I was thinking about Western University, I'll have to look further into. I've been having a difficult time finding info on the generic MSN at SFSU on the website. Have you heard back from any schools yet?

I agree about SFSU - their website was sort of confusing regarding their generic MSN program. I sent in my application a while ago but haven't heard anything (and according to allnurses.com shouldn't hear anything until May!).... I have so far been accepted to the University of San Diego and Samuel Merritt University (in Oakland). I am really hoping that I get into USF, it would make everything so much easier - but if I don't I will probably be moving down to San Diego :) Besides SF State I am also waiting to hear from Cal State Fullerton, but i'm not expecting to hear anything soon. I also applied to UCLA but didn't get in.

Just to let you all know I emailed MM to find out when we should hear back (I am not good at being patient!) and she said next week or the one after. I don't know if I can handle waiting 2 more weeks!

Hi everyone, nice to meet you, I am joining the wait!

Sam 198 and blsulliv, I think I remember you from the UCLA thread. I have had a couple of rough days and still very upset. I was accepted in UCLA and I happy over the moon for the last two weeks. They emailed me on Monday and told me they were retracting my application due to something with my undergraduate transcript. I am so bummed, I can't even describe my disappointment and sadness...Hopefully I get into USF, I have family up in SF, so that would be great and USF is such an amazing school as well.

That is crazy! Im so sorry that happened to you : (

Ya, thank you Sam198, it feels like they took a dream away from me, even though I know that if I want to be a nurse, I will make it happen. I wish they looked into this stuff earlier, I mean they had the application for months and I specifically asked them about specialized degrees, it just seems very unprofessional to accept me and withdraw me. I will rise above it though and think of it as their loss:)

Hello all,

I too, am anxiously waiting! Its driving me crazy....

Stani, I am so sorry to hear about your situation. My stomach dropped reading that. It seems like they owe you a better explanation for their mistake.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if we should be hoping for the "phone call" or notification by mail?
