I just started as a HH RN after working in Med/Surg for 1 year and I love it so far! I am only just off of orientation, and the paperwork and case management aspect of the job will definitely take some time for me to figure out. Not because it's difficult, but because it's a lot of new information, phone numbers, processes, and systems to learn and understand. I love seeing patients in their homes, they are so much more relaxed and appreciative. I feel like you get to really see the bigger picture. It's obviously much less clinical, which I really like. And I do feel like I am still making complicated nursing decisions and using many nursing skills that I didn't get to use even in the hospital. I don't know where you are living, but the pay sounds great to me! More than I am making!

@Kat061111 and those who were accepted/waitlisted, or plan on reapplying- I talked to someone who is in the program now and she is still working 2 days a week and doesn't feel like the first semester is too strenuous. Classes are basically 3 full days a week, and because clinicals do not start until 2nd semester it is totally feasible to work that first semester. Once clinicals start, I am guessing classes are still 3 days a week plus 1-2 days of 7am-7pm clinical shifts. I looked online last night and found the schedule for Summer which looks like, Wed. 9-12:30 1:25-4:55 5:30-7:30 Thur. 4-6:20 6:30-8:50 Friday 9-4:30 The Wed. 5:30-7:30 class only meets 6x and you also have the option of taking it on Tuesday 8:31-9:30. This is just what I found on USF's registration site last night based on the CNL curriculum pattern, so don't quote me! When clinicals start they are 1-2 days a week and run from 7am-7pm (not sure if this is 100% of the time?) and the hospitals USF works with are Stanford, John Muir, SFGH, UCSF. Hope this helps!

I'm quitting work because I've been working while in school full-time for the last 3 years and I am so OVER IT (stress to the max)!! Also, I've heard that most people who work part-time in the first semester drastically cut back their hours once the program progresses because devoting a lot of time to studying (not just time in class) is necessary. BUT! depending on your job, and your excellent study habits I'm sure you can pull it off. I thought I heard that we will be in class 3-4 days a week the first semester. I know someone who is in the program now, so I'll ask her. I can't wait to meet you! Everyone I've met in my pre-req classes has been so awesome and smart and compassionate and curious, it makes me feel so good about going into nursing. My heart goes out to you guys still waiting, keep the faith!

Hi Kat061111, Congratulations! I am not planning on working at all during the program, I'm even quitting my part-time job. I live in Walnut Creek right now and plan to stay here, although if it proves to be too far a commute (1 hour on BART/bus) I will move back to Oakland. SF is just so expensive! I hadn't considered attending the CNL conference, but it's a great idea! Where do you live? And you must have a pretty flexible job to continue working full-time during the program, what do you do?

I just got a call about 30 minutes ago that I'm in! I was so nervous, I could barely even talk to the woman who called! Good luck you guys, I hope to hear that we all get in!

Anyone want to share stats? I have a 2.0 from my first 2 years of college a 4.0 from my second two years (different school - so 4.0 was my graduating GPA, but not my cumulative) and a 4.0 in my prerequisites. I've been volunteering at John Muir in Walnut Creek for the nurse manager of the birth center, basically as an administrative assistant, so not much patient contact, but she is a USF graduate and wrote one of my recommendation letters, so maybe that'll count for something? I sent 3 letters of rec. in but I got to read the one my boss from work sent in and it was kind of weak, nothing bad, but not much detail either. She typed it out but didn't print it on letterhead, didn't sign the letter, or indent her paragraphs...I was pretty disappointed and frustrated to say the least (am I ungrateful, or are these reasonable things to expect?). Anyhow, would love to hear what the rest of your stats are, and GOOD luck!

I applied to USF and SMU as well. I heard that Summer is more competitive at USF than Spring, is this because the people who didn't get into Spring session reapply for Summer, making more applicants overall? Are any of you re-applicants, if so, what did you do to improve your app. and what kind of conversation did you have with MM? If I don't get into USF or SMU I think I might just try to have a baby or spend some time learning Spanish before reapplying!

Is this program usually 3 years?
