Anyone applying to the UCLA MSN-Advanced Practice program for Fall 2014? I applied for the FNP program. I figured we could use this thread to chat and update each other!

I've been keeping my eye on this forum and I'm sorry to hear about the rejection letters that have recently been posted. I don't know how many applicants there were or how people were ultimately selected, but for those who aren't attending next fall, I hope you find your niche at another school or reapply next year if this is where you really want to be.

I told myself that if I didn't get into graduate school this year, I would let the dust settle and then reach out to my schools to discuss ways to strengthen my application for next year. I'd done this before in other areas of my life and always found it to be helpful (and it takes some of the sting away because now my focus is on becoming better). If they wanted more research, OK! I'll do more research! If they want more community service, sure! Free blood pressure checks for the community! More nursing experience? No problem, I'll keep working and maybe join an extra committee or two on the unit... and so on. Regardless of what happened next, now I'm a nurse with more research, community service, and on the job experience.. and that's not a bad thing to be.

If there's a chance anybody is still waiting to hear word (I know there are more readers than talkers on this forum... ), please, please try to stay positive until you hear from the SON. There are no predictable patterns to this process (read the last 270 posts, you'll see).

I know everybody has different stories. If we all really want to become NPs, then we'll become NPs. The ways we get there may be different, but if we decide that's how our lives will go, then we'll make it happen.

I was recently admitted to the post-masters ACNP cohort for the fall - congrats to all my fellow classmates!!

BIG SIGH :sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry: - for those who were not accepted/waitlisted. It's SO hard to be in limbo for so long and then get no news/bad news. @Travelea has some really great advice, especially about getting more experience, leadership, research, etc. under your belt. I myself did not believe I'd be admitted this year, and went through exactly the same thought process that @Travelea did. I'm sorry that there is little I can write to numb the sting of not getting in :sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry:.

For those accepted into the ACNP speciality, the pre- and post-masters ACNP students will mostly be in classes together so I created a Facebook Group for our cohort (c/o 2016). I can't post the link here, but send me a personal message with your name on Facebook, and I'll be happy to send you an invite. Looking forward to meeting and spending the next two years in the trenches with you all!!

Passion8nurse... How come as a post Master's student, your program is also 2 years long? What are the differences in our curriculum? I assume you graduated from the MECN program at UCLA

I am curious to know if anyone is planning to working part-time or full-time once our program starts?

I'm not sure how exactly they are different, as I was supplied with the MSN sample curriculum. It sounds like it's individually-based though....whatever that means. Yes, I was a MECN, but there are other post-masters from other MSN programs from all over the country.

I plan on working full time as long as I can. I am also a single mommy to a 10 month old. Though she will be 15 months by Sept. I feel something's gotta give. So I will go part-time work if I have the oppurtunity to. From what I've been told by some co-workers on my unit, working full-time and full-time school is manageable during the first quarter. But once clinical starts, most people went part-time work.

Medical students and residents for example, burn the candle at both ends. But they have accepted that challenge. But ultimately, it all depends on what YOU feel you can handle and what challenge you are prepared for. You can do anything you put your mind to.

@1adb10 hi I was accepted into the PNP program as well. Good to see there's another! Thanks for the summer session info. Had you emailed them? It's the only reason I looked at this forum lol

I got an email the other day with summer session info. It is summer session C that starts August 4-September 12 for physical assessment and research classes. Monday and Wednesdays supposedly. Didn't say time

Just trying to figure out how I would actually do it myself, bc I have kids and debating on whether I should bring them all w me or have them stay where we are at w husband other fam members supportive of us- and hopefully get them once everything settles down...
