Hi friends!

Anyone applying to the UCLA MSN-Advanced Practice program for Fall 2014? I applied for the FNP program. I figured we could use this thread to chat and update each other!

Thanks!

Thank you for you advice, I went to high school in California so I qualify for instate tuition! I decided to accept, and will start looking for a part time or per diem position. I could not be more excited to start and am up for the challenge!

@travelea You mentioned earlier that you thought it would be a good idea to write UCLA and ask what I can do to be a stronger applicant. I thought that was a good idea, but I have no clue who I should contact? I'm not sure if RF is the right person or someone else. Do you have any suggestions? Any input would be very helpful. Thank you and good luck!! :)

Congratulations everyone on being accepted into UCLA!! Currently enrolled in the FNP track, I'm the newly elected Graduate Student Nurse Association Co-President (APN) and look forward to meeting all of you at orientation. This announcement will be discussed at orientation but GSNA will need a first year APN representative; so think about it :)

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM me. Again, Congratulations!!

Who else among us are not from the LA area? Have you guys thought about your housing options? Does anyone of you also have a family? How are you guys planning to do this?

So far looking for shared housing outside campus in Westwood through ucla's website. Nothing too interesting for now.. I live in San Diego and planning to stay in some cheaper type of housing with roommates for the consecutive days of classes. It'd be nice to room with other nursing grad students. Not too clear on what the exact schedule will be yet? Anyone have an idea?

For those who are looking for off campus housing, just wondering which websites you guys are looking into or how you look for a room/roommate.

Thank you

@haiyen: on the UCLA website, you can click the link that says community housing and it should allow you to browse for rooms/ roommates.

Does anyone plan to work part time or per diem once the program starts? I am thinking about cutting my hours at work and continue working part time. I am worried though, 12 hours X2 = 24 hours a week might still be too much to handle with our school load. Any suggestions/comments/thoughts? Maybe per diem is a better option? However, if I choose per diem, I will no longer be a benefited employee. Do most students quit their bedside jobs?

No, MOST people do not leave their bedside jobs. 2 of my colleagues are graduating from the ACNP program this week and have worked part time (2 12 hr shifts/week) during the whole 2 years and full time during breaks.

If you don't HAVE to work, then by all means, take the time off. You will need to factor in many things. Kids, commute time to school/work, your study habits, time management skills, support system, etc. Ultimately only you know what you're capable of.

I for example plan on working part time and I am a single mom.

Hi. I found out that our schedule for the Fall would be Tues and Wed. Do u guys happen to know if our curriculum would be the same for everyone on the first quarter? It seems like we will have clinicals the first quarter, is that true for everyone?

There are NO clinicals the first quarter (fall). Clinicals start in winter quarter. As far as the curriculum, for those who already have a masters in Nursing, they may not have to follow the exact curriculum and repeat courses.

But what about the n440 class, doesn't that involve clinicals? Do you know?
