Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

I just can't understand why UCSF is so hard to contact... both times I've tried calling, they've been short with me on the phone and haven't been able to offer any info on whether my app. is indeed complete. :nuke:

I always have good luck contacting the office via email (I'm on my second app :-)).

JudeyRooney81 I'm hoping (fingers crossed)to get into the adult nurse practitioner mepn program. Holy cow I love thanksgiving. Anyone else?

Hi folks,

I'm new to allnurses but have been pouring over this and the Yale forums the past few days--all the sharing of info and support is just great, so I decided to join up and join in. Anyway, would love to hear how the process goes for everyone; I guess right now we're all just waiting...

Hi everyone, I have applied to MEPN and have been lurking on this thread since June. I figured I should post now since we are all anxiously waiting for our interview invite (positive thoughts)! I have heard a lot of people's specialties but haven't seen anyone post about the perinatal CNS track. I am applying to this one after two emergency c-sections, I have no hands on patient care experience except for being the patient myself. I was in the unfortunate situation where I went into labor this past March and the nurses were striking at my hospital. Needless to say the care I received surrounding my emergency delivery was sub-par and inspired me to pursue my dream to be a nurse. I have been looking into nursing school since I graduated in 2004. This last expereince was the final piece to my puzzle, I wasn't sure about how or where to pursue my nursing dream until now. Anyways I figured since I already know so much about all of the other posters I should share a little about myself. My first degree and career was in biodefense research. Any current MEPN's if you could enlighten me on the perinatal track, it seems to be a small specialty, makes sense I mean who wants to work with sick moms and babies:( I would have never guessed I would until I realized that my personal experiences will allow me to be a voice for these women and improve the care they receive in such frightening circumstances. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to meeting you all on interview day!:yeah:

Good to see new post-ers. Thanks for the types about physical limitations health conditions. I would definitely be able to meet physical criteria, and you have given me insight on how to handle the interview (should I be fortunate enough to one!) Any thoughts about when they are supposed to arrive in the mail?

Hi Judey,

Upon reviewing posts from the past couple of years, it looks like interview notifications will be sent at the end of December, sometime before the Christmas holiday.

Good luck! :wink2:

Is it just me or did you get a confirmation that they received everything? Not sure if its too late to ask them, but I'm just wondering....I didn't get anything from them if stuff was missing via email or US mail.

The wait is torturous! I had a dream last night about it and it will certainly not be my last!

I did not receive anything from UCSF regarding the status of my materials or application, but from what I can gather, this is par for the course for the university.

Try calling or emailing the admissions office - it can't hurt.

I know of one man in our class who is on the perinatal track - I dont think he reads this board but I will ask him to have look.

As for the tracks - during the MEPN year we have nothing to do with our specialty departments. Perhaps there is a post-MEPN on the perinatal track lurking out there that can help you.

What questions do you have? Or would you simply like to connect with another like-minded MEPN?

czyja- Tahnk you for your reply. I was just wondering what 'type' of people(person) was already pursuing this specialty. I was very natural minded with regards to pregnancy and childbirth before and during my pregnancies. I attended an information session in 2004 when I graduated and the only specialty track that interested me then was the CNM, and I knew that ws highly competitive. Now it is my personal experiences that have influenced my decision for pursing UCSF and this specialty. I was just curious on what might have brought other individuals to want to pursue this field as a nurse. I think it is really interesting that there is only one this year and it is a male...nothing against men as nurses.

Also, to those that are asking about being contacted, I was contacted in late Oct. because my GRE scores hadn't been received. I faxed and mailed them in right away and never heard anything back. So I am guessing like everyone else that no news is good news. They did update my online page to say that all my letters have been received.

Ah. I dont know that he is the only one, but he is the only one I know. I know a bunch in the CNM track, I think it is rather more popular. I met a guy in his second year of the CNM program and he loves it. Most folks seem happy with their program.

All of our stories are pretty wacky. There really doesn't seem to much of a common thread outside of the fact that we all want to be nurses, thus necessitating nursing education. Some of us are young and more than a few are are middle aged. Some, like you, come to nursing a result of a personal experience with nursing. Others, like me, worked with nurses.

Letter do out on the same day. You will all hear en masse if you got an interview. The waiting is miserable. Try not to let it mess up your mood too bad. Pretty were pretty miffed at me last Christmas...

I want to say that I received my interview letter late December, a few days before Christmas. It was somewhere around the 18th or 20th. I know that doesn't help with the anticipation but at least you know you probably have a few more weeks before you should expect it. Good luck everyone!!
