UPMC Mercy School of Nursing -Class of '15

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi AllNurses community! I have been searching for a thread for the UPMC Mercy Hospital Class of 2015, but alas; no such luck. Therefore, I created one!

I was accepted to start in August 2013 and was looking for others who were, or are looking to be accepted. I know it's early still, but I am ready to start school and secure a study group.

Now to my question: I know Mercy has a tuition contract. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a good deal? I know they are sending information about it, but I am interested in hearing opinions.

Thanks!

Naturalgirl- no I haven't bought any review books. I didn't look on the CLEP website and took the practice tests and I saw they had review books for $10. I'll probably buy those. I am new to this whole CLEP thing. Do I just call the school to sign up? Is there a website or something to show you when they offer tests?

if you go to ccac's website, they have a registration form on there. they give the hours they're open, so since its a computerized test, you just tell them what day you want to take the test.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the help. I am new to Pittsburgh and things are so different then where I am from. Lol good luck to Everyone still trying to get in! Can't wait to meet you all in orientation.

Hi! I am starting this fall at UPMC Mercy! I was excited to find this since i do not know anyone else who will be attending. I am looking for housing near the school and was hopeful anyone local could point me in the direction of some reasonable rent?

@Lindsey, where are you from?

@Payday, congrats on getting in! Mercy is close to downtown Pittsburgh, so most neighborhoods are pretty convenient. Maybe look at Oakland (can be pricey tho), south side, and lawrenceville? Good luck!

I'm from St. Louis, Missouri. My husband, son And I moved here at the end of summer last year.

OH! Well welcome to the 'burgh! Lol

Hi! What is CLEP and can anyone take this test to "test out" of certain classes? I am not sure about alot of what im reading and just nervous/curious? thank you and thank you for the advice on where i might find housing :)

@payday, CLEP is a test that you can take to give you college credit for course like intro to Psych, intro to sociology, human growth & development, etc. it's cheaper than taking the actual course. I've taken all of those classes already, but mercy has a 5 year time limit, so since I've taken those classes more than 5 years ago, I'll have to either take those classes again or take the CLEP test for that course to receive credit. But if you've never had those courses, you can still take the CLEP to receive credit.

I was accepted! See you all in the Fall!! How many students will be in the mercy class of '15??

Congrats Yinzer! Not sure how many are in, but I am too!

I'm going to CLEP sociology I believe. Is it true that I can do this without ever taking the course?
