I worked in Mercy for 3 1/2 yrs in their ICU but through my agency, when they started the bidding it eliminated agency. I get a phone call every now and then from them and I too received a post card in the mail but I have to tell you the bidding is not all it is cracked up to be. First off you can't select the unit you want, only the shift you want to work and they place you where ever needed. It is very cut throat, pitting staff against staff. Favoritism plays a part too, even if you bid $1.00 less if they have a friend that is bidding they get the spot. Mercy is losing nurses hand over fist, I have a friend that still works there and I suspect they will be using agency soon since their staff is fleeing. At one time it was my favorite hospital to work in but their nurse managers are changing, they have a new CEO that is very cut throat and money conscious which is probably why they are losing a lot of good nurses. When the nuns ran the hospital it was the best!
