Lancaster General College vs. HACC

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi,

I am currently a student at HACC and have applied to clinicals here starting January 2014. I also applied to Lancaster General College as a back up. I am wondering which school would be better to attend for clinicals, I have all my pre-reqs done. I've heard pros and cons about both. I heard Hacc will better prepare you for the Nclex but from what my adviser told me the schedule is Monday through Friday 7-4 and I could have to drive up to 50 miles to a hospital. I think LGH is less days. I have a daughter that will be 2 when I start in January so I am trying to pick the one with the best schedule for us but I also want to attend a school that will really prepare me for my field. Any info on each schools clinical schedules, passing rate, ect. will be helpful. Also does anyone know if hospitals are more likely to hire a graduate from one of the schools over another? Thanks in advance for the info!

Heard many good things about HACC... consistently through the years.

Similarly RACC, in Reading, also has a great rep.

Good luck!

LGH has an excellent program, plus they have the BSN option. You'll get excellent clinical experiences there. They have a 98% pass rate for NCLEX.

I am currently a 2nd semester nursing student at LGH. The program there is AMAZING. Everything is state of the art, and new. First semester is 3 days a week. (That includes an 8 hr clinical day). Second semester is also 3 days a weeks with an 8 hr clinical day.... BUT you do have to complete a 4 hour "alternative" assignment each week, but many of them are ONLINE. I am a 35 year old, married mom of 3 girls ranging in ages---- 7,5,2 years old... and have maintained a 3.7 GPA. The program is tailored to the adult learner, and their NCLEX rate is 98%. I feel VERY WELL prepared. It is VERY expensive to go to LGH, but you get what you pay for. I feel like my education is top notch. We have a sim lab on the campus and EVERYONE is wanting to see students succeed. It's a no brainer.... I would recommend LGH for ANYONE with a family or full time job.

AND.... I have heard REPEATEDLY that LGH students are hired over HACC students at LGH, Epherta, and York hospitals.

I graduated from LGH in May and just got my first job. I loved general and it's program. Clinicals are incredible with lots of different experiences. Good luck in whatever you choose!!

I am very pleased with the HACC program. Two months before graduation, I was offered & accepted a job in the Lancaster area. I also passed the NCLEX with 75 questions, less than three weeks after graduation. I feel very prepared & highly educated. So far, my classmates are knocking off their NCLEX & taking jobs like crazy.

I am starting HACC's clinical program this January (2014) and as well have applied to two back up schools, however I am choosing HACC. It is affordable and to be honest I have heard some pros and cons for both LGH and HACC programs. The wife of my co-worker attends LGH she is doing well in the program but they did not have too many nice things to say about it. For myself HACCs program is more appealing. I am sure both schools thoroughly prepare students for employment and NCLEX. Good luck through your clinical experience!!
